It has been great to collaborate with the Universidade do Porto in this study on optimizing pricing plans for carsharing. In this paper published in Transportation Research Part E Masoud Golalikhani bridges a gap between business practice and state of the art, moving from a unique single-tariff plan to a realistic market offer of multi-attribute plans. To fill this gap, we develop a mixed-integer linear programming model and a solving method to optimize the value of plans’ attributes that maximize carsharing operators’ profit. Customer preferences are incorporated into the model through a discrete choice model, and the Brooklyn taxi trip dataset is used to identify specific customer segments, validate the model’s results, and deliver relevant managerial insights. The Surprisingly Humble Beginning of Corporate "DASHBOARDS" in Horse Poop ?? The origins of the corporate dashboard have a surprisingly humble and literal connection to horse-drawn carriages and their messy surroundings. In the 19th century, carriage drivers faced a unique challenge: horses would kick up dirt, mud, and even manure while traveling. To protect themselves and passengers, a wooden or leather “dashboard” was installed at the front of the carriage. Its purpose was to shield the driver from the dirt, debris, and, most notably, the horse poop flying back at them. The term “dashboard” stuck, and as automobiles replaced horse-drawn carriages, the concept evolved. Early car dashboards provided critical information like speed, fuel level, and engine performance to help drivers manage the increasingly complex systems of their vehicles. From this, the idea of the dashboard as a tool for providing vital insights and control took hold. In the corporate world, dashboards now serve as digital platforms that consolidate real-time data and key performance indicators (KPIs) into an easily digestible format. Just like their predecessors protected carriage drivers from unwanted mess, modern dashboards help business leaders manage complexity, make informed decisions, and steer their organizations in the right direction amid an overload of information. HNGRY has uncovered the first retrofit location in NYC for sweetgreen's new Infinite Kitchen robotic makeline that has been shown to improve store-level margins by ~10%. Since its last earnings call, the stock has taken off as analysts have updated their models to assume that a good chunk of future store builds will contain the automation. The thought is that higher throughput from the machine will drive higher AUVs while also curbing labor inflation. But with only two deployments there is a lot we still don't know about the machine.
