On this #MindfulMonday, let's take the opportunity to have a mindful #MemorialDay ?? Our first Memorial Day (previously known as Decoration Day) was observed back in 1868. This was to commemorate those who lost their lives in the American Civil War, and allow a day for collective grief. As we continue to observe this day, we mourn and memorialize all of our lost soldiers over the years. Memorial Day should not be a day of mindless observance, rather a mindful day to acknowledge the meaning and importance. This could mean mourning those you have personally lost, a collective mourning for all the lives lost, or some moments to practice gratitude. How will you move through this day mindfully? #MentalHealthMatters

It’s been absolute honour this week to spend time with a CC & DCC and some of their team whilst working out of their offices for a day. Great conversation about policing, family, friendships, politics, cars, dogs, even a bit about funerals and quirky ministers ?? Why am I posting about this? Well here’s the insight! Chaplaincy has two stages. Stage 1?? relationship. Stage 2?? (which isn’t presumed), is opportunity. To be invited to stage 2??, that’s a drawbridge and it’s not controlled be me as a chaplain! The drawbridge has a name and it’s called trust. When trust bridges from relationship, we as chaplains become invited to a place of opportunity! Chaplains treat relationships like a holding pattern of an ??? maintaining it’s presence in preparation for opportunity. ?? Chaplains reading this post, may I encourage you to maintain that relationship holding pattern. Those around you are sussing you out and may just lower that drawbridge of trust any moment now! For those connected to chaplains working on the relational connection ‘sussing them out’, may I encourage you to lower the drawbridge. Let’s not wait until you need them in your world! #HereToServe

Honoring Our Heroes with the Next Generation This Memorial Day, the moving tradition of the "Avenue of Flags" at Orange Grove Graceland Cemetery in Lake Charles took on a special meaning for our family. The article details the 40th anniversary of this display, the largest of its kind in the US, where each flag honors a fallen veteran. What truly resonated with me was seeing my daughter, Vivienne, a proud Scout, participate alongside her troop in raising the flags at the cemetery at 5:30 am. Their dedication at sunrise was a powerful testament to the importance of remembering our veterans' sacrifices. These flags, each one a casket flag presented to a family, hold immense significance. Vivienne and her troop were not only honored to raise them but also got a chance to experience a piece of American history through the "History Walk" – a new addition featuring 27 flags with QR codes for historical insights. This experience solidified the importance of giving back and honoring those who served our country. It's a value I strive to instill not just in my family but also in my approach to financial planning.
