Americana Restaurants, the largest food service operator in the #MENA region, has acquired the Pizza Hut business in #Oman from the Khimji Ramdas Group. The acquisition includes 46 outlets, which generated an annual revenue of approximately $11 million in 2024.
This deal strengthens Americana’s regional footprint, increasing its total Pizza Hut locations across multiple markets to approximately 450. The company highlighted the acquisition as part of its ongoing strategy to expand its presence in existing markets and reinforce its leadership in the food and beverage sector.
Americana has a long-standing history in Oman, having operated KFC and Hardees’s in the country since 1986. By acquiring the Pizza Hut franchise, the company further consolidates its position in the Omani market, which aligns with its broader regional growth strategy.
The Omani conglomerate Khimji Ramdas, established in 1870, sold its Pizza Hut operations as part of a consolidation strategy to focus on its core businesses across consumer products, infrastructure, lifestyle, and logistics.
“This marks a new chapter for the [Pizza Hut] brand in Oman, ensuring it continues to thrive under the leadership of one of the region’s most experienced food and beverage operators,” said Nailesh Khimji, Director of Khimji Ramdas.
Despite its expansion efforts, Americana has faced challenges in 2024, reporting a 54% drop in third-quarter profits to $37.4 million. The company attributed the decline to the ongoing boycott of #US brands over perceived support for Israel, which has impacted operations across the region.
CEO Amarpal Sandhu stated in November that while a “hockey stick recovery” — a sudden and sharp upswing — is not anticipated, the company does not expect further deterioration in financial results.
Americana is the primary franchise operator for global brands such as KFC, Pizza Hut, Krispy Kreme, and Hardee’s across the Middle East, North Africa, and #Kazakhstan. With nearly 2,500 outlets in the region, the company continues to expand despite market challenges.
Since its dual listing on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) and Saudi Exchange in 2022, Americana’s share price on ADX has risen over 9% in 2024. The acquisition of Pizza Hut in Oman underscores its commitment to maintaining growth and resilience in a competitive market.
