It’s the week of The Open (I’ll always know it as the British Open).?Golf returns “home” and it allows for a deep reflection on Golf’s roots.?For me, I decided to focus my athletic pursuits solely on golf when I was 13.?I chose golf because it’s free of the many subjective aspects involved in other sports.?In golf, it’s you versus the golf course and nature.?That’s it.?There are no umpires, referees, judges, etc.? Just the course, nature and your skills. That’s why I love sales.?I believe sales is very similar.?Effective sales managers define the course (territory), set the quota (par), and provide advice/consultation when needed (we could all use a great caddy!).?In the end, it’s up to the representatives to navigate their territories, exceed expectations (birdies win the day), and ask for help when needed. As a manager, I believe the best players, playing on courses that suit their style, with the best and most prepared caddies will win every time.?That’s why I believe the most important role in sales management is hiring the right people in the right place. Who’s the right hire for Royal Troon this week?!?Who’s the right hire for your Open territory?!

Sales learning from a short video: I was watching this YouTube video and something caught my attention on how this car sales man engages with the customer. I thought of sharing my observations and top 3 take-aways (and the third point is the most important). Please watch the video before reading the points. 1. Understand the underlying pulse quickly: The sales man (Nick) first asks the prospect (Dan) that if he visited the showroom earlier. Quick gauge the customer interest and anchor your conversation around the core purpose the customer is looking for. 2. Elevate the conversation: Nick (salesman) said its an experience to drive a Gallardo and he positioned much beyond the obvious. Customer buy for an obvious reason, but the key is to discuss and find the larger impact beyond what customer may be thinking. 3. The most important point (beyond the two) is that Nick saw Dan as a human and went beyond just a buyer - Nick did not care if Dan was a looker or a buyer - but he said the customer is alive. The customer (Dan) was low in confidence and even says no one said hello to him before but check Dan expression after the drive. So deal with customer like a human and create an environment of an open and healthy conversation. Lot of times - sales guy get busy judging before moving forward. Sometimes, they just push their proposition, they see customer as another purchase order, but look at the person and deal with that customer like a human. Forget long term relationship, live in that moment and see it is a chance to know and learn from someone nice. Happy selling.. https://lnkd.in/gwPR9iiA

??I don’t think there is a difference between sales reps and pro athletes in mentality. I was a pro athlete before I entered sales, and I think that was my biggest luck in sales. I remember when I was working as a rep. It was a really big company. They trained us for two weeks, and after that, they stopped training. They were expecting to book 10-20 calls every week just after two weeks of training. I was the only person who handled that stress and trained hard to overcome this; I closed the month as the top-performing sales representative. However, what they did was wrong because you need to train your salespeople regularly, Not many of the people can handle that stress and discipline, I also met a few grade people like?Junior Lartey ???coming from pro athlete backgrounds and really successful in sales; Do you guys think that the discipline in sports is the same as the discipline in sales?

I had some very well meaning bosses in my sales career, but they all shared one frustrating problem... They thought everything could be fixed by motivating the team! Have you ever watched someone trying to motivate a group of people who need help of a different kind? It's like watching someone trying to push-start a lorry with six flat tyres. 'Come on team! If we believe, we can do it!' Yeah... and if I flap my arms fast enough, I'll fly to the moon. Here's the thing - Motivation in sales is like sauce on a burger. It adds flavour but it won't disguise crap meat. Sales ???????????????come from sales??????????????????????which has 3 elements: ? Quantity (how much you do) ? Quality (how well you do it) ? Direction (where you point your efforts) And then the personal attributes of the salesperson drive the success of each element: ?????????????????????drives Direction ???????????????drive Quality ???????????????????????influences all three Motivation is great, it's the Red Bull of sales performance, but motivation without skills is like a racing driver with no steering wheel. They'll go fast, but probably straight into a wall. So, next time your team need a gee up, start by checking knowledge and skills. After all, you wouldn't send a soldier into battle armed only with a positive attitude, would you? Want some free resources to help develop your team's skills? Drop me a message or comment ‘GOAT'. Let's turn your sales team into the Greatest Of All Time. No arm-flapping required. #BeTheGOAT of #Sales #SkillsDevelopment

Tuesday Tip: When hiring sales reps for your roofing business, focus on attitude over experience! ?? Roofing knowledge can be trained, but a strong work ethic and great interpersonal skills are what drive results. Look for candidates who are passionate, persistent, and customer-focused. A strong team begins with reps who truly believe in your brand and the quality of your work. ???? #TuesdayTip #RoofingRecruitment #IgniteResults
