Students at Grand Rapids Public Schools Innovation Central High School are starting the year in a newly upgraded space! We worked with Kingscott Associates to preserve the building's historic charm while bringing it into the 21st century with improvements such as: ? A new chilled water and heating plant ? Energy-efficient LED lighting and upgraded electrical systems ? Modern ventilation and air conditioning ? Classroom updates, including interactive teaching walls The $40M renovation was designed with #energyefficiency at its core, and is on track for LEED certification. Our MEP systems are projected to save 29% in energy and 33% in energy costs compared to a Baseline ASHRAE building. Case Study: Planning permission secured for Sussex and Surrey Institute of Technology (SSIoT) Our Gatwick-based planning team was appointed by Chichester College Group to secure planning permission for a brand-new education facility south of Crawley College campus. The £15 million Sussex and Surrey Institute of Technology (SSIoT) is designed to provide high-quality learning environments housing specialist construction, engineering and digital ‘learning factories’. The designs embraced renewable energy technology and water harnessing and recycling systems to reduce energy consumption and wastage. Planning partner, Suzanne Holloway collaborated with key stakeholders on the design to ensure swift approval – from our client and the architects, to the local planning authority. Having addressed water neutrality challenges to deliver an efficient and sustainable development, planning approval was achieved. Construction is already underway and the centre is due to open to students in Autumn 2025. This new building will give us more opportunities to educate and train people to address the skills shortages in the engineering, construction and IT industries." Following our usual trend with our meet the team post, we spoke to Damon about the common issues independent schools are currently facing… Space Efficiency “Lots of Heads and Bursars are constantly worried about the lack of space within their existing building footprint, but there’s usually more space than you think, which can be realised with relatively simple reconfiguration! ??” Master Planning Headaches “Considerable numbers of schools are looking at their masterplans and wondering whether they should be embarking on major construction projects at this point in time; relating back to the space efficiency we were just talking about, you can often deliver more bang for your buck by reconfiguring existing buildings, as opposed to building new structures (in terms of square metres gained per £££s spent)”

Time to celebrate another #LivingFuture certification! This is not your typical certification. This is ?????? ???????? ?????????? ???????? ??????????????????????????! HUGE congrats to Fahy Commons at Muhlenberg College, located in Pennsylvania (USA), on achieving your Core certification (part of LBC 4.0)! Fahy Commons, designed by Re:Vision Architecture, is a 20,000 square foot building used by students, faculty and school administrators. While not a Core requirement, the team performed a post-occupancy evaluation. The majority of participants identified the building as beautiful, and a safe and healthy space.? Students and staff alike requested to be in the building more than 'standard' hours because of how much they enjoyed being in the building. The project was able to exceed the energy performance requirements even with the unexpected additional use. This new building includes 29 #Declare products, 18 more than required, representing 13 manufactures including Wilsonart and Nucor Corporation.
