CI-ISAC International as a Partner of the Global Cyber Alliance (GCA) would like to share this great cybersecurity toolkit for small business produced by GCA. We also encourage small & medium businesses (SMBs) to take a serious look at Dynamic Standards International (DSI) (formerly CSCAU) affordable and easy cybersecurity standard, (SMB1001) which is a more affordable & easier standard for SMBs to adopt (compared to ISO27001) in the short-term as a pathway for SMBs to improve their cybersecurity maturity in a structured manner. SMBs are pivotal to the global economy, representing approximately 90% of all businesses and accounting for nearly 70% of both employment and gross domestic product (GDP) worldwide. In emerging markets, formal SMBs contribute up to 40% of national income (GDP). This figure increases when informal SMBs are included, underscoring their significant role in economic development. The number of SMBs globally is substantial, with an estimated 358 million small and medium-sized enterprises worldwide in 2023. These statistics highlight the critical importance of SMBs in driving economic growth, employment, and innovation across both developed and developing economies. As all economies rapidly digitalise they need to be defended against cyber-attack, and CI-ISAC International's whole-of-nation sovereign anchored cross-sector integrated ISAC model for defending digital economies and critical infrastructure is the most financially sustainable and analytically effective way to do this. BIG HELPING SMALL IN CYBER From little things, big things grow, (so the tune goes) which in cybersecurity terms means countries need to do more in practical operational terms by building operational capacity & capabilities to support & enable the protection of small & medium businesses (SMBs) from cyber-attack. The integrated cross-sector CI-ISAC non-government & not-for-profit model anchored in the sovereignty of independent countries yet driven by industry in each country, is the most financially sustainable & analytically effective way for civil-society & the private sector to leverage the benefits of cyber threat information for their day-to-day cyber defence. The model not only helps protect the smaller less cyber mature businesses, but also helps defend the larger businesses with whom small business form the supply-chain to reduce the risk of potential 3rd-party attack vector for larger more cyber mature businesses.
