Just like the natural world, life and business alike are fraught with several seen and unseen risks. Every entity, whether it’s a project, an organization, or even a professional, grows each day is a miracle, having successfully avoided and tackled such risks. The documentary captures how even the mightiest entities face danger from weaker ones. Over time, even the strongest can weaken, yet some manage to overcome great odds and emerge victorious. While the numbers may seem overwhelming, winning remains possible. Sometimes, the stronger entities may choose to target the weakest of the weak in order to preserve themselves. ?? Remember, resilience and adaptability are key in navigating the complex landscape of risks and challenges. ?? https://lnkd.in/gPFjN36Y

Whales are amazing. In every sense. There is not one day without a new discovery about their way of living, communication and looking after each other. Whoever has had the chance to experience whales in the ocean understands that there is intelligent consciousness and feels an emotional connection. But not only that. Whales are actually instrumental in helping the slow-down of climate change by removing carbon from the atmosphere. Read the article in the NYT: https://lnkd.in/dD5Yr5W2 and also read/watch below to understand more about this incredible and necessary action.
Blue Green Future is excited to showcase how financial markets?and the recent #MāoriPeople's declaration— conferring legal personhood on whales—work together for their protection. ? In partnership with #HinemoanaHalo, Ocean Vision Legal, Whale Seeker, and SeaLegacy, we show how #insurance and #capital markets can support this legal protection by rewarding maritime companies and other businesses that take steps to avoid harming the whales. Our environment tends to get overregulated, but have you ever thought about, if you would have to impose only one general rule...which one it would be? Quote "Your rights end where my rights begin" is often attributed to Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., who was a U.S. Supreme Court Justice. However, it is important to note that the exact origin of this quote can be difficult to trace definitively, as similar sentiments have been expressed by various thinkers and legal scholars over the years. How quote "your right ends where the right of others begin" can be explained? It means that none of us exist in a vacuum, and since we are social animals, we must consider the rights of others in determining how much “space” (literally or figuratively) each of us may fairly and justly take up, in relation to the needs and rights of our fellow humans. The classic formulation, from a US Supreme Court opinion a century ago by Oliver Wendell Holmes (IIRC), is that your right to swing your fist ends, where my nose begins. What Holmes was trying to express is that no rights are absolute.

The Hoot Pursuit: Lessons from the Corporate Owl Colony ? Owl – the face of wisdom/strategy in the animal kingdom ? In the dense forests of the #business world, a wise and mysterious colony of creatures thrives – the Corporate Owls. These feathered sages, with their piercing gazes and silent wingbeats, have long been the subject of intrigue and admiration among their human counterparts. But what secrets do they hold, these nocturnal #masters of #strategy and #foresight? ? To answer this question, I embarked on a daring #expedition, donning my best camouflage blazer and armed with a briefcase full of high-protein snacks (the preferred currency of the owl realm). After weeks of patient observation and more than a few close calls with #territorial mouse #executives, I finally gained access to the inner sanctum of the #Corporate Owl Colony. ? And what I discovered was truly remarkable. ? At the heart of this avian empire lies a vast, ancient #library, where tomes of business #wisdom are meticulously curated and studied by the owls. From Sun Tzu's "The Art of War" to Michael Porter's Competitive Strategy," no classic has been left unfeathered (or unread, as the human saying goes). ? But it's not just book smarts that set these owls apart – they possess an almost preternatural ability to see opportunities where others see only darkness. "Who?" one particularly insightful owl inquired when I asked about their strategic vision. "Who indeed," I mused, suddenly struck by the profundity of their rhetorical prowess. ? Perhaps most impressive, however, is the colony's unwavering #focus and attention to #detail. From meticulously preening their business #plans to swiveling their heads a full 360 #degrees to #monitor market shifts, these owls leave no stone unturned (or, in their case, no mouse unconsumed). ? As I prepared to depart, one elder owl took me aside and imparted a final piece of wisdom: "To be a true Corporate Owl," he hooted solemnly, "one must embrace the quiet confidence that comes from knowing one's strengths and limitations. Only then can we soar above the noise and distractions of the business world." ? Wise #words, indeed. And as I made my way back through the dense underbrush, briefcase now empty of snacks but filled with newfound insights, I couldn't help but feel a profound respect for these feathered masters of #corporate #strategy. ? So, the next time you find yourself lost in the tangled thickets of the business world, take a moment to look up – you just might spot the silent, watchful gaze of a Corporate Owl, guiding you toward #success with its ancient, winged wisdom.

To secure a future for whales, dolphins and our planet, we need to get everyone on board. We need scientists to do research on boats but we also need businesses to invest in the ocean. ???? In this week's blog, WDC's Abbie explains how businesses, with their huge influence over our world, can help power up our efforts ??https://lnkd.in/eUEdscGT

This is the way forward. A new paradigm on how recognising the intrinsic value of nature can drive markets to change behaviours and ultimately protect nature. It's been a long road but great work Ralph Chami and the #MāoriPeople.

Here’s the follow up to my last on this topic. Ralph Chami guides thinking on the realisation of the value of whales - and blue natural assets more broadly. Inspiring thought leadership!
