Over this past weekend,?Twitter discovered?the problem that?Kevin O'Connell?and I have dedicated the past four years of our lives to solving. Why don't lawyers and other non-coders have a git-like version control system? I share my thoughts in this essay https://lnkd.in/eqnFu29F. This is an important question. The legal system is the essential bedrock upon which all else in society is built. The protection of civil rights, peaceful conflict resolution, access to due process, enforceable contracts — all these depend on a well functioning legal system. The professionals who operate this system are not currently equipped with tooling that meets their needs.

Wow. Your essay explains this issue beautifully. As a future trainee I had no idea of the issue, but I’m hopeful the future generation of solicitors will embrace this technology. Where can I learn more about it? Jordan Bryan

My first reaction is that we don't need it. But the more I think about it the more interesting it sounds. But I think Lawyers are a difficult market. My gut reaction was (and not a field of expertise)- Lawyers don't want many hands because most of their content is legalese. So it will have to be re-read at the end. Doing a code commit, merge and then having to read it all again to be 100% certain is more work than one person doing and then another reviewing? Now if you are talking about other fields of work. One to consider would be script writers. There are often many, many writers contributing to a script. There is also a niche for things like 'Special Educational Needs' where I do have experience. We have a document that has multiple sections, each completed by a different expert. But currently they are a nightmare for one person to maintain. So commits for that would be great. (if you go with those just post me some equity ??)

I think we might've beaten you to the punch :) Benki has been working on version control for M&A + legal for five months, my co-founder Anish Sundar was at Credit Suisse and it was a huge problem there https://www.loom.com/share/a4c5f5bf035c43938b342361154b6753?t=119&sid=1191404d-ed6b-4315-b3ae-6b888763bcb7

Wouldn't git-gui do the trick here? If i recall correctly, it has all the buttons needed for the task.
