Ann says: We all need to notice when our brains try to trick us like that, when she experiences a negative reaction to a female leader's voice. Have you ever made a judgement? I have. I've assumed the man was the manager and the woman was the employee for no other reason than bias, that I didn't know I had. Embarrassing. What Ann Sieghart mentions in this clip, about our brains tricking us, illustrates the biases we all hold. What amplifies bias? Uncertainty. And Leadership. When asked, almost everyone says they love creativity. But if exposed to ambiguity, or in a decision maker role? They hate it. They don't even know they hate it, but that is the result of the testing. They still say they like creativity. We're fooling ourselves if we think we are thinking slow. We're thinking fast and using our slow brains to justify our instinctive response (Ref: Kahnemann) So what can we do to start thinking more slowly, to be aware of our bias? We can build our Tolerance of Ambiguity. We don't even know it's happening much of the time. And leaders are especially prone. Check out the book Creative Change by Jennifer Mueller if you're interested in learning more. Creativity and mindfulness are two very effective strategies to build this critical skill, if you want to lead with innovation and confidence through change. How are you in ambiguity? Be honest.

It's time we move from conversations to actionable change when it comes to gender equality in the workplace. This awesome TED Talk offers a refreshing perspective on how we (and by we I mean women too) can start taking women more seriously and create an environment where everyone can thrive. Let's be the generation that makes the shift, not just in policy, but in practice.

Despite progress over the years, we still have a long way to go in achieving gender equality. It's disheartening that even today, 70% of men rate their male peers higher than women for the exact same work. This disparity underscores the need for continued education and advocacy. How much longer will this persist? #women #genderequality #mensatpower #womensleadership

Companies with higher gender diversity, especially in executive leadership, are 21% more likely to experience above-average profitability. McKinsey research shows that gender-diverse companies are not just outperforming competitors—they’re more innovative and better equipped to navigate change. Yet, despite these clear benefits, many organizations still undervalue female leadership or fail to provide equal opportunities for success. This isn't just a social issue; it's a business imperative. When women hold decision-making power, companies gain diverse perspectives, foster a more inclusive culture, and drive sustainable growth. It’s time for corporations to step up, break the barriers, and create pathways for women to succeed in leadership roles.

"Why are women still taken less seriously than men?" Having watched the entire TED Talk delivered by Mary Ann Sieghart, I'm struck by her calm, intelligence, sense of humor, and her focus on facts and solutions. It makes me proud of the work I do to support leaders in creating gender parity and equity in their workplaces. These leaders understand that gender parity in organizational leadership benefits everyone, inside and outside of their organization. The more we all understand the authority gap the better we will be at identifying it when it appears in its many forms. You can't unsee it once you see it. Without this awareness we'll never be able to make the changes needed on the individual, organizational and societal level, that will improve overall wellbeing, security, and opportunity for everyone. To the men, we need you! Without your partnership and allyship we will never see a world in which women are seen and treated as equally capable and and as competent as men.? We all need to do our part, for ourselves and for each other. #AuthorityGap #GenderParity #GenderEquality
