These are my three takeaways from the 45th International Vienna Motor Symposium: ? 1.???As expected, electric vehicle technology is continuously advancing. But we are still far from meeting CO2 targets. 2.???The call for technology openness is growing louder. This means, we should not only rely on electric vehicles. Instead, we could use e-fuels and hydrogen technologies to meet the CO2 targets faster. There is still a BUT here, because the infrastructure for green energy is lacking and there is not enough sustainable electricity generation for e-fuels and BEVs. ? 3.???Blue hydrogen may be a viable alternative since it is created from natural gas or oil. To make it environmentally friendly, a carbon capturing process is included. ? Nothing is decided yet. There could still be new technological advances that would help us reach CO2 targets and make individual transportation affordable.
