I’m reaching out because I’m facing a bit of a crossroads in my HR career, and I’d love to hear your thoughts. My small HR team is about to lose our VP in a couple of weeks, and the chatter around the office is pretty concerning. ?? Here’s the scoop: our VP has decided to leave due to a troubling pattern of lack of integrity and accountability from those higher up the chain. Think missed deadlines, iffy personnel calls, and a complete disregard for vital culture initiatives. It’s made us all wonder about the leadership climate. Once she departs, my colleague (31M, Sr HR Manager) and I (29M, HRBP) will be merging our teams with the Training department. Here’s the kicker: nobody in Training has any formal HR experience! ?? Can a Director of Operations role be 'entry level'? Companies hire talent because they see an opportunity for the business to benefit from an additional team member and the skills they bring to the company. A key part of hiring for a role is communicating roles and responsibilities clearly. Without communicating roles and responsibilities the position is doomed to fail. Why would a company pay $36k a year for an entry level operations director position?! 1. They want a director but don't want to pay. 2. They want to pile on responsibilities without really knowing what they need so you call the position a Director position. If you need the skills and value added for your business you need to pay for them and do so within a honest and respectful framework. At the end of the day a talented operations director can create and lead a wave of transformative decisions and strategies that will set the business on a knew growth tragectory.
