Our glowing faces after 3 days trapped in a room together lol My team spent time in a strategic planning retreat last month to help us prepare for next year. It is critically important to me to make sure we have the following: 1. A connection from our department’s work to our mission. At the end of the day, our development and communications team must be anchored by the mission to end cycles of violence. Our department mission, objectives and activities should reflect that outcome. 2. An analysis and celebration of our time together thus far. It’s been nearly a year for me at INVC. We were able to capture that we had activated 78 different projects (events, campaigns, activities) within that timeframe. Now we’re going to do the work to understand our annual workflow, revenue and/or brand value for each project and assessment of the resources we need for each of the activities we plan to continue. 3. Team contributions to the strategic plan and an understanding of their roles to meet our goals. I pride myself in being a collaborative leader. I was so glad to see the team engaged in our discussion for 3 long days and to come out taking initiative around their piece of the work, empowered and excited to share with the rest of our INVC family. Strategic planning takes time and resources. It should not be a privilege to have an opportunity to plan. It’s imperative. We owe it to the mission and to the people we serve. Reflecting on the past month, I'm reminded of a pivotal moment during a session with one of our esteemed leaders, Mr. Sumit Grover, who is an SVP in strategic sales at Prodapt. Tasked with developing a new habit by today, I chose to tackle something deeply personal: my fear of asking questions. For too long, I allowed this fear to dictate my interactions, hesitating to seek clarification or voice my uncertainties during group discussions. Instead, I relied on private conversations with friends, missing out on valuable insights and opportunities for growth. What held me back? The worry of appearing uninformed or incompetent in front of my peers. But as the deadline approached, I realized the true cost of silence: missed chances to learn, to connect, and to contribute meaningfully to our collective journey. Today, I stand on the other side of that fear. I've embraced the power of vulnerability, recognizing that asking questions isn't a sign of weakness but rather a testament to a thirst for knowledge and a commitment to excellence. By openly sharing my doubts and seeking clarity, I've not only deepened my understanding but also fostered an environment where curiosity is celebrated, and every voice is valued.
