Expanding businesses can easily access water in the Grand Forks region with over 80% of the permitted water capacity available. With water availability an important component of operations, the Red River Valley Water Supply Project is working to connect a water pipeline from the Missouri River to the Red River Basin to ensure that water will be available to central and eastern North Dakota if there is a mild or severe drought. The pipeline will be 72 inches in diameter and 125 miles in length from the McClusky Canal to the discharge at the Sheyenne River and will run along Highway 200 in central North Dakota. The funding for the project is split between the state and local entities. Of the estimated cost of $1.2 billion, 75% will be paid by the state from biennium to biennium. 25% will be split between the local entities, with Grand Forks and Fargo covering about 82%. The project has a large economic impact, ensuring that Grand Forks will continue operating in times of drought. https://lnkd.in/gNyJECA3

In a time of increasingly severe flood events, water quality improvement needs, aging and deteriorating drainage infrastructure, and capital improvement cost inflation it is more important than ever for local governments to optimize the value of their limited resources.?There is no more important step that can be taken toward that end than developing a more comprehensive and strategic approach to infrastructure asset management.??Austin Dugger and I will be sharing some thoughts and encouragements about that at the April 9th OFMA Conf at River Spirit Casino in Tulsa. #OFMA #Stormwater #AssetManagement

This is a great interactive map of the conditions of 42 dams in California facing storage restrictions and hazards to communities. It showcases the importance of rejecting the Governor's proposed reversion of $50 million in General Fund dollars for dam safety investments, half of the $100 million previously allocated to this program. "While California has over 1,500 dams across the state, 42 are restricted in how much water can be held in their reservoirs. With an average age of about 100 years, these restricted dams are in fair or worse condition. Nearly half are at extreme risk of flooding communities that house 1,000 or more people if the reservoir were full and the dam failed, so that's why the state imposes restrictions." https://lnkd.in/gfe9D5nc

When originally built in 1977, the Walnut Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant had a capacity of 18 million gallons per day (MGD). After numerous expansions, its capacity has now reached 75 MGD — and is set to increase further still. Serving as the prime consultant on behalf of the City of Austin, we’ll provide an array of engineering services to improve the aging structure’s operational and environmental features by increasing the plant’s capacity to 100 MGD.? The upgrades will bolster the resiliency of the community’s wastewater infrastructure?and include a flood wall to protect against 100-year floods in accordance with the National Weather Service’s historic?Atlas 14?flood risk study. “As our industry’s leading Water consulting firm, we look forward to continuing our long-standing partnership with the City of Austin to ensure the Walnut Creek Expansion delivers state-of-the-art treatment capabilities to the local community,” said Beverley Stinson, chief executive of our global Water business. ??? It’s an Overflow Action Day. Reduce your use of water before, during and after rainstorms to reduce the amount of water in your municipal sewers: ?? Delay showers and baths ?? Flush less frequently ?? Wait to run the dishwasher or washing machine Flooding and sewer backups can happen for a variety of reasons, ranging from conveyance of water flow in local pipes, the groundwater table, undersized drainage designs and roof loads, and sump pumps attached to house lines. The Texas Water Development Board met in Austin today. In addition to approving funding for projects, the board approved the publication of draft rules to implement the new Texas Water & Texas Water Supply funds created by SB 28/Prop 6. https://lnkd.in/gVxmACUy https://lnkd.in/gC2EFdAU The Board also approved the 2025 Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Fund (DWSRF) intended use plan which identifies and ranks projects eligible for funding through the program. Unfortunately, due to funding cuts and congressional earmarks the federal contribution to the SRF program for Texas is going to be severely diminished and the majority of the $1 billion approved to capitalize the new Texas water funds will largely be allocated soon. It is more clear than ever that we need a mechanism to provide consistent funding to capitalize our new fund and acknowledge that we cant count on Congress to provide the funding we need for Texas water. We need a Texas solution and next session there will be an earnest effort to accomplish that. The Texas Water Infrastructure Network (TXWIN)is committed to work with the Legislature and our stakeholder partners to make this a reality to ensure that Texas has the means to invest in our water future and address affordability issues. Our way of life and our economy depend on it.
