of course, there exists a #firstmover #moat. veterans in the field benefit from having hordes of clients who are incentivized to not #churn. this is massive #cashflow that can be invested in acquiring more clients, etc. It takes a while for a new niche colonizer to carve its spot and get things on autopilot. every day you need to work harder to tip the scale. relying on your speed of action and innovation is usually the way to go.

The Day Arma Almost Didn't Make It (and Why I'm More Passionate Than Ever) Hey everyone, Look, I'm not gonna sugarcoat it. The past few months with Arma have been a rollercoaster. We've had some incredible highs – that first new launch, the positive user feedback, the feeling of finally seeing our vision come to life – but lately, things have gotten tough. Remember that scene in every startup movie where the founders are down to their last ramen noodle, staring at a mountain of bills? Yeah, that was us (except with slightly better food choices, because #adulting). Customer acquisitions weren't going as planned, doubt started creeping in, fully bootstrapped and the pressure to make Arma a success felt like it was crushing us. But here's the thing: in those moments of despair, something incredible happened. The Arma team – a ragtag bunch of passionate misfits, fueled by coffee and a shared dream – rallied harder than ever. We brainstormed new strategies, doubled down on our core values, and most importantly, refused to give up. Why? Because Arma isn't just a piece of software. It's a solution to a real problem – the chaos and inefficiency that plagues end-end integrated manufacturers. "Breaking the unconventional, Building the fastest operations ever" Worked as an engineer in our past experiences, me and my co-founder had experience the painful struggle of running a day to day efficient production & manufacturing operations to meet daily targets. Thanks to our initial clients, believers and industry innovators in manufacturing. The thought of letting all that potential slip away simply wasn't an option. Yesterday a founder friend and a partner sent me the brilliant vid by Keith Rabois about organization structure. Core idea of the video is that you as an owner have people that are barrels and ones that are ammo. This made me think and be grateful that as a founder I have way more barrels than most people would - I am able to delegate projects to my awesome tech team at CodeCraftsmen and reduce my involvement in operational game. This enables my own being a barrel for multiple partners in the market and powering them with exact amount of ammo they need. ??Moral of the story - search for people who would be efficient and proactive on their own - rely on the people you can call “barrels” and give them decent compensation of the efforts. ??Second take is that a partner to a startup should always be a barrel and willing to walk an extra mile for people that trust you enough to call you a partner. Do extra research, think about the actual needs of the project and do not be shy to talk to your network to connect the dots on the map. That is the key to common success. A (lengthy) Analysis of one of my favorite Shark Tank Pitches: This was not a huge deal or crazy-glamorous product. It wasn’t wildly innovative. So what exactly was it about Knife Aid Inc. that had the Sharks literally swarm them, in the studio hallway, and compete to give them their money? https://lnkd.in/gCbi355u Here are the reasons I attribute to the feeding frenzy among the Sharks: FEASIBILITY You can’t pitch your way out of a bad idea. Knife Aid quickly demonstrated simplicity and effectiveness, and made it fun and interactive while doing it. They built rapport and injected humor. This is all great, and set the stage for deeper dialog, but still does little to prove that a good investment opportunity actually exists. TRACTION These gentlemen showed up with revenue. There is no better proof that you have something that people want, than the fact they are giving you money for it. Hype and glamor and fame can help, but nothing trumps sales when it comes to proving traction to investors. STRONG FOUNDERS Possibly even more important than the traction proved by their revenue, was the competence of the founders. Mikael Soderlindh and Marc Lickfett are ringers. Mikael was the founder of Happy Socks (and a 9 figure USD exit from it) and Marc had numerous startups, executive management and board experience under his belt. I think it’s fair to say that the Sharks were fully confident that these founders could execute. HONESTY Around 4min into the segment, Rohan Oza asked ‘why not just fund it themselves’ (given Mikael having already had a significant exit). Mikael opened up that he had failed in the US market previously, due to not having the right partners/connections, and that he wouldn’t repeat that mistake again. It cant be overstated how huge this was for building trust. A few minutes later, when pressed on what they needed the most help with to make Knife Aid a success in the US, the founders explained that they needed guidance with building and executing retail channel partnerships and brand awareness in those channels. AWARE OF OWN WEAKNESS Finally, and in my opinion the most important but easily overlooked factor here that made the Sharks trip over themselves to compete for this deal is that they demonstrated complete awareness of why they needed a Shark in the first place. Specifically, they made it clear that they knew that money could be had from a variety of sources (VCs etc), but that if it came from an investor who helped address the gap that’s keeping them from scaling the business (channel development), that it could generate a lot of additional value on both sides of the deal. By this point the Sharks were in a full-blown feeding frenzy. Great deals happen when each party needs, and trusts, the other.

Just as the world of software is owned by the people who ship products the quickest. In both cases, an initial decision or product may not be the best, but thanks to accelerated refinement, they compound faster and become dominant as a result.
