Stunning breaking news that Comcast will spin most of its cable off into a separate entity. Smart move to "quarantine" that declining business from the mothership; but it's still a cash machine that can do great if it merges with a bunch of other networks over time which can share resources and leverage. Standard strategy for a decaying business: find efficiencies faster than the decline. During Comcast’s Q3 earnings, its President said the company is considering spinning off its cable networks but "is not ready to talk about any specifics yet." Comcast says they are "studying the best path forward for these assets," but Comcast and other similar companies have been saying this for years. It's time for them to make a plan, execute it, and stop "studying" it, year after year. Comcast says any potential spinoff would not include NBC or Peacock. Multiple companies have recently taken large billion-dollar write-downs of their TV networks, and I think it's only a matter of time before companies like Comcast are forced, based on market conditions, to spin out the legacy TV business.
