In the article below, at “Global Policy”, Professor Glauco Ortelan contest my thesis that Latin America is within the fringe of the Western World by arguing that, to the contrary, it belongs to its core. As the link of my article is reproduced in his, readers may be able to compare both visions and reach their own conclusions. https://lnkd.in/gxXeKvft

I am delighted to announce the publication of part 2 of a double issue on 'Relationality in Contemporary German Literature and Culture' (ed by Mary Cosgrove and Anne Fuchs) which appeared this month with Oxford German Studies (volume 53/3). The contributions in both issues are OA and examine the shift from subject-centric models of identity to relational subjectivities.

The collection of essays presented in this volume, the fifth issue of Compendium, provides a literary and cultural mapping of the Atlantic that, through a critical-theoretical post-colonial perspective and a comparative approach, enables us to (re)assess the circulation of texts and cultures within the Atlantic space in the light of unequal power relations that are intrinsic to colonial modernity. Furthermore, the collection highlights the multiple forms of micro-and macro-physical violence underlying contemporary migrations which have always borne the scars of the colonial nature of knowledge and power. This dossier comprises a series of essays that engage in dialogue with the social sciences, pedagogy, and literary studies, alongside two critical reviews. https://lnkd.in/d8J5UkxK

Spring 2025 Course Alert ?? Maru Pabón's "Third World Literature and Thought, 1950–1970" offers an introduction to Third-Worldist thought and literature, focusing on the shifting relationship between the Soviet Union, anticolonial nationalist movements, and leftist internationalist currents during the years 1955-1973. How did literature contribute to the formation of the Third-Worldist project, and how did the Third-Worldist project inform the writing of literature? The course approaches these questions by examining the role of conferences, print periodicals, and supranational organizations like the Afro-Asian Writers Association in shaping new understandings of the politicized function of literature. At the same time, it pays close attention to the aesthetic categories and literary forms that mediated a powerful sense of solidarity between far-flung revolutionary actors.
