Research for Action is committed to becoming a community-engaged research organization that truly values?all?forms of knowledge. In our "Insights Report," we emphasize the importance of moving beyond the traditional hierarchy of academic knowledge and recognizing the lived experiences of community members as vital expertise. One way RFA is putting this into practice is by building community advisory committees composed of community leaders, parents, and teachers/ former teachers. These committees ensure that community perspectives shape the research project overall, from design to dissemination. ??Curious about how RFA is centering community voices in their research? ?? After the riots: Building the foundations for social cohesion This paper by the Together Coalition, British Future and Belong-The Cohesion and Integration Network offers a useful analysis of the recent riots, uncovering longer-term trends that underpinned the violent outbreaks. Now, more than ever, we need to be building bridges, not walls. But in a world teeming with difference and diversity, we can't rely on our instincts alone to build relationships across divides. Learning how to live together must become a long-term priority for our education system, backed up by government support. https://lnkd.in/eMsfvp5y

??FIDE Schools rely on our local partners to thrive! With our capacity events, we are dedicated to collaborating with organizations that work diligently in their region to promote deliberative solutions. They have the regional knowledge to address the needs of the public administration and are invested in establishing a strong network of practitioners and experts locally. The school can serve as an ideal setting to develop this network and connect with international allies. At the last four schools, we collaborated with wonderful organisations all over Europe like Rohetiiger, Sitra, Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli and most recently, DemNet Hungary (Foundation for Development of Democratic Rights). ??Our co-organiser this time is deliberativa.org, which is a small organisation with various experiences. They design and accompany deliberative processes at the European level and in several regions and cities in Spain (Catalu?a, Euskadi, Valencia, Cantabria, Gipuzkoa, Barcelona, etc.). They are also engaged in a number of research projects, such as a Horizon Europe project (Climas), aimed to support climate resilience with an innovative toolkit, including deliberative mechanisms, and through the World’s Assembly Lab. They are also promoting deliberative democracy at the Spanish level (Ampliando Democracia) and building networks in the Iberian peninsula (Red Delib). ??At the Autumn School, our aim is to work together to provide training to civil servants and civil society actors. They learn about how to integrate citizen assemblies into their daily jobs and how to coordinate with all the departments in-house involved in this complex cooperation.?To sustain the related knowledge and to know how to evaluate the available expertise and resources. ??Register: https://lnkd.in/dWC8QBcN This event is part of the Expanded Forum on Deliberation, Creativity, and Democracy in collaboration with Platoniq Foundation, Red Delib and Ampliando Democracia.

One more time! Here is the promised link to the symposium on cultural complexity that was help on July 2. It is long so there are prompts for finding sessions, but I thought the first three presenters were amazing in how they responded to the papers that Anthony Lynch and Zoe Lambert wrote beforehand and tied them to other academic research and really explained so clearly the changing scene before us in our globalizing world. So may the seeds they spread here grow into new understandings and concepts for us all to keep working with in the various fields we represent and work in! https://lnkd.in/g8vW2mzk

On September 30, 2024, the CCAC recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a federal statutory holiday that honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, their families and their communities. Today also marks Orange Shirt Day, an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative event intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community intergenerational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”. The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations. The CCAC encourages members across its community to use today as a day of remembrance, reflection, action, and learning. The CCAC also continues to support Towards Reconciliation: 10 Calls to Action to Natural Scientists working in Canada, a document that “challenges the scientific community to recognize that reconciliation requires a new way of conducting natural science, one that includes and respects Indigenous communities, rights, and knowledge, leading to better scientific and community outcomes.”

Finally official, and I can tell you about it: Uppsala University is coordinating a new EU-funded project in Horizon Europe, 'Larpocracy: Developing Spaces for Deliberation and Democratic Skills through Role-playing'. Larpocracy aims to promote democratic engagement and political expression through live-action role-playing (larp). The project, which runs from January 2025 to December 2027, involves university partners: Uppsala University, Tampere University, and University of Greenwich.?The universities are partnering with four larp and art production companies: Europe 4 Youth, Larpifiers, Chaos League, and Z-U. The project is coordinated by professor Annika Waern at the informatics and media department. ? The project addresses the declining engagement in traditional democracy and the limitations of social media in fostering civil discourse. Using larp as a platform, the project hopes to create inclusive and democratic social spaces, both online and offline, where young people can develop important democratic skills such as deliberation. ? The project will investigate the effectiveness of larps in cultivating these skills, explore festival spaces as potential sites for future democratic skill-building, and use larp-like activities in an art-based intervention with underprivileged communities in Belem, Brazil as a case study. The goal is to provide recommendations for designers and policy-makers on how best to leverage larp as a tool for democratic engagement.
