Good news for Kyulux in obtaining the backing of Nippon Soda in providing a parallel path to high performance OLED emitters to that of phosphorescence. https://lnkd.in/eAxhy_xs This model of a VC founded firm in materials, then getting the backing of a major player for upscaling and larger investments, seems in line with the Nanosys-Shoei construction also. I do wonder whether venture investors get the right deal, so that they are adequately rewarded for the derisking of the plan up to the point that a strategic gets involved. Certainly we need more VC backers for deep tech given the longer gestation periods and technical risks. Transforming biomanufacturing using software with Martin Permin https://lnkd.in/g_rs9h5P Excited to have a conversation with Martin Tromp Permin, Founder and CEO of??Invert?. The company is on a mission to transform biomanufacturing through advanced software and data analytics. We discuss the founding of Invert, what capabilities they give their customers, and the importance of biomanufacturing to grow biological products like proteins, enzymes, and specialty chemicals. Production from bioreactors allows us to produce important medicines, sustainable materials, biofuels, and other products that will shape our future. We're pleased to see Dr Linden Schrecker successfully launch his own spinout, SOLVE, using #AI to improve the manufacturing of drugs and fertilisers. At #OurImperial, Linden was jointly supervised by Professor Klaus Hellgardt (ChemEng) and Professor Mimi Hall (Chemistry) Linden worked on a project sponsored by BASF, dealing with automating the process of designing new molecules and processes. The technology created is designed to enable chemical companies to scale manufacturing of new chemicals quickly and efficiently. This is the latest outcome of the highly successful decentralised #Enterprise support programme offered by us at #ImperialChemEng - totally unique within Imperial College London. The scheme involves a pre-seed funding scheme, extensive advice, mentoring and access to Imperial funders. Our Enterprise support programme also hosts an annual #EnterpriseDay bringing together founders, early investors & mentors to network at the earliest stage. SOLVE was showcased at the 2024 Enterprise Day on 15 May which was attended by 66 targeted early-stage investors and accelerators. Since the showcase, Linden's spinout has accelerated nicely with four hires and lab space secured. Prof Sandro Macchietto, Director, ChemEng Enterprise, stated: "SOLVE is an example of how research can be fast-tracked by planning and supporting the commercialisation journey early."
