Inflation is the greatest threat to socioeconomically disadvantaged communities. Inflation, not climate change, is what is driving rampant homelessness and is the primary disruptor to the daily quality of life for almost everyone. Environmental policy is inflating the cost of energy which has a direct correlation to the cost of living and the amount of investment in infrastructure back into the communities. While the highly educated privileged communities drone on about climate change, stoking the fears found in these studies, the disadvantaged communities that these “required” policies disproportionately affect don’t view them as “required” when they are weighing whether to pay their inflated electric bill or feed their kids via their inflated grocery bill. These are not “perceived” costs, they are painfully real, especially to the disadvantaged communities. While everyone wants the best possible outcome for the environment, a more prosperous tomorrow starts with energy affordability. Policy that raises energy costs by roughly 22% in a three year span (2020-2023) doesn’t marginalize disadvantaged communities, it is downright cruel to disadvantaged communities.

Gensler: yes, and don't forget to think wider / more multidisciplinary i.e., epidemiology / pandemic linked to climate dynamics -> risk / potential of setting the world back including economically / financially -> additional downstream impacts. In the year 2024, it is essentially a piece of cake to focus on severe / extreme weather driven by climate since we see it manifesting worldwide even though it has been on our scientific radar for decades when it was less obvious. highlighting the urgent need to address the intersection of climate change and social inequity is a great subject for the betterment of public and private places. Stresses how marginalized communities, particularly Black and Latino populations, are disproportionately affected by environmental stressors due to historical underinvestment and lack of infrastructure. The article advocates for equitable design practices as a solution, emphasizing the role of designers in creating resilient, inclusive environments that address both climate adaptation and social justice. It calls for systemic change to ensure all communities are better prepared for the growing impacts of climate change. this is truly the concern of today's design to protect all social life keeping ecological balances as well.

Climate Change. Please people, enough already. It's weather and has been weather forever. Absolutely nothing "new" regarding our climate.
