A slightly belated thank you to Rob Edwards for pulling together a brilliant line-up of speakers this week for the #Neurodiversity in Inclusive Entrepreneurial Ecosystems conference. I've pages of notes to work through but some initial reflections are: ?? #Entrepreneurship is fully embracing of diversity - Tony L. talked about the successful diversity movements that change the culture of our environments to enable them to thrive. And to thrive requires an agile, adaptable, self-learning ecosystem. Entrepreneurship embodies that. ?? Thanks to Dr Sharon Zivkovic I've revisited #effectuation as a far more inclusive way of taking entrepreneurs through their ideas. I've known about effectuation since 2013 and have dipped in an out a little bit ever since, but I'm committing now to looking at how we can bring it into our delivery. ?? Almuth McDowall's research highlights the importance of trusted #networks (something we're building across our programmes) and the need to pay more attention to financial wellbeing. Amen to that. ?? Dr. Helen Taylor shared some of her research into dyslexia, entrepreneurial learning and business adaptation. We all need to see neurodiversity through a strengths lens - divergent thinking = an exploration of a wide range of ideas. ??As Johan Wiklund put it, "as an entrepreneur I can be myself". They can build a business to fit their unique ideas and strengths, embracing impulsivity and lived-experience in the process. Thanks too to the brilliant panel of Danielle Cudjoe-Michalski (ICF ACC, PMP), Filomena Rodriguez, Ben H. and Tamsin Crook for sharing their work. I am glad to announce that my colleagues, Amon Simba, Mahdi Tajeddin, Paul Jones and I have just published our article titled: "A disaggregated view of soft skills: Entrepreneurship education systems of Africa" in the Journal of Small Business Management. In this article, we explore the soft skills' interaction with entrepreneurial processes (opportunity identification, validation and exploitation) in shaping entrepreneurial readiness behaviours. We demonstrate that while soft skills are integral to shaping entrepreneurial readiness of entrepreneurs, their impact on their ability to start, innovate, finance, and grow new ventures is mediated by the entrepreneurial processes that define their entrepreneurial journeys.
