Global aid for pre-primary education has increased by 40% between 2021 and 2022, reaching $282 million, the highest recorded. This rise is primarily driven by the World Bank. Funding is still far below the international target of 10% of education budgets. Disproportionate allocation of funds, lack of strategic investment, and focus on middle-income countries leave millions of vulnerable children without access to quality early education. To bridge the gap, it is crucial for donors and governments to prioritize funding for pre-primary education to ensure that all children have access to quality early childhood development. ?? NEW RESEARCH for Theirworld on donor funding for pre-primary education: In this 7th annual report, Asma Zubairi & Pauline Rose review the latest data available on pre-primary education spending, in particular from 2021 & 2022. Aid to pre-primary education is still far from the 10% target. Since 2017, Theirworld has advocated for aid donors and national governments to commit 10% of their education spending to #EarlyChildhoodEducation. In 2022, the share of education aid spent on pre-primary education rose to the largest proportion recorded since records began in 2002, reaching 1.4%.?However, this is still far from the 10% target. Bilateral donors decreased their aid spending (by almost half) on pre-primary education between 2021-2022, to a mere 0.4%. #ActForEarlyYears #EarlyYears You can read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/eJBmT72e

We’re excited to see the release of the first-ever global report on early childhood care and education (ECCE) by UNESCO and UNICEF. Noting that almost 60% of children in low-income countries do not have access to early care and learning opportunities, this is a crucial moment to reaffirm our dedication to expanding access to quality ECCE for all children. With an annual average financing gap of $21 billion, which accounts for 47% of the total cost needed to provide one year of pre-primary education, the report calls for exploring alternative financing mechanisms, such as the outcomes-based financing models championed by The Education Outcomes Fund in Sierra Leone. According to the South African Department of Basic Education, around 30% of children come from households living below the poverty line. As a result, many families cannot afford school fees, uniforms, and other associated costs. Tomorrow Trust plays a crucial role in bridging the gap for children from disadvantaged households in South Africa by offering holistic support that addresses both educational and financial needs. ?? Our tertiary bursary programme specifically targets students from low-income backgrounds, covering not just tuition fees but also essential expenses such as textbooks, educational devices, and living costs. This comprehensive approach empowers young learners to pursue higher education without the burden of financial stress, enabling them to break the cycle of poverty and achieve their academic and career aspirations. #TomorrowTrust #WorldKindnessDay #ActsOfKindness #SupportEducation #ChangeALife

DAY 7/30 Poor access to quality education... In Africa, we all are looking forward to a brighter and better future, especially economically, and the least thing we mostly think about is the well-being of those we regard as the leaders of tomorrow. How would they effectively lead if they lack proper access to quality education? So many dreams and aspirations, but no proper education to keep the fire burning. The ones who managed to gain little access to education don't have the resources to buy necessary materials. We undermine the importance of education and jump into fantasizing about a better and stable Africa. How do we think we will access water without digging a well? We certainly can't fast-track things without following the due process needed. In the streets of Africa, we see so many children with the desire to go to school. Few give up because they got tired of dreaming about going to school someday. If we want to achieve a bright and stable Africa someday, we need to invest in the educational dreams of our future leaders. Most parents work day and night to pay school fees but can't afford learning materials afterward. It's totally heartbreaking to see. According to the UNICEF sustainable development goal 4 states that every child should receive quality education. When children are offered the tools to develop to their full POTENTIAL they become productive adults ready to give back to their communities and break the cycle of poverty. Education enables upward socioeconomic mobility. All hands must be on deck to ensure that children get the proper education they need to soar better in life. There are a lot of dreams dying on the streets of Africa; not just the government, but everyone should take action to see that African children get proper access to quality education. Both boys and girls should be given access to quality education. 7/30.

Global aid to early education rises, but are donors really committed? ???? As a country, Haiti has faced numerous challenges over the years – natural disasters, political instability, and economic struggles. However, one of the most significant challenges that have affected the country's progress is its struggling education system. To understand the gravity of the situation, let's look at some statistics. According to USAID, only 52.98% of Haitian children complete primary school (up to 9th grade). The numbers dwindle even further in secondary school, with an 18% completion rate. When it comes to tertiary education, just 1.05% of students enroll, and a mere 4.53% complete their studies. These numbers paint a grim picture. In Haiti, education is not a fundamental right accessible to all; it's a privilege enjoyed by a few. This lack of education perpetuates a cycle of poverty and limits the potential for growth and development across the nation. ? Education is more than just an academic pursuit; it is a potent tool for transformation.? For individuals, education opens doors to better job opportunities, higher earnings, and improved health. For families, it builds resilience, providing the knowledge and skills needed to navigate life's challenges. For societies, education is the bedrock of long-term economic growth, fostering innovation, strengthening institutions, and building social cohesion. We hear countless stories of Haitian families forced to choose between feeding their families and educating their children. This impossible choice underscores the urgency of addressing educational inequity in Haiti. How can we make education a priority without forcing families to choose? The answer lies in holistic support. We must provide the resources to ensure that families don't have to choose between immediate survival and investing in a better future. By doing so, we can change the trajectory of countless lives and, ultimately, the future of the nation. Imagine a Haiti where every child has access to quality education. Picture a nation where families are resilient, and equipped with the knowledge and skills to thrive. Visualize communities strengthened by social cohesion, driven by innovation, and poised for economic growth. This vision is not just a dream; it is achievable through collective action and commitment to making education accessible for all. We are passionate about education and its potential to transform Haiti. But we cannot do it alone. ?? We need your support to make this a reality. Join us in our mission to provide quality education to the children of Haiti. Shop at Lekòl Marketplace and buy school supplies, so 232 children have the opportunity to go to school. Every purchase counts. Let's work together to ensure that every child we provide care for has the opportunity to learn, grow, and have the opportunity to provide for themselves and their families. ?????? Exciting to see such a significant increase in global aid for pre-primary education! It's a step in the right direction, but as you rightly pointed out, there's still work to be done to reach the international target and ensure equitable access for all children. Prioritizing funding and strategic investment is key to paving the way for a brighter future for the next generation.
