Just released from American Forests: a special short documentary called "Year of the Cone." It follows our crew working in Oregon's Fremont-Winema National Forest, and their work to survey and monitor cone development. Did You Know: There's a narrow 3-4 week window in which cones are ready to harvest, and thanks to their efforts, we currently have a specialized climbing crew down there that is collecting the thousands of cones that will one day become forests that cover former severe burn scars! With your support, AF is working with partners on the ground to build up the national supply of seed:? ?? We are bringing land managers, seed orchards, and contractors together to study seed shortages and coordinate to build networks of partners dedicated to growing seed supplies.? ?? We are managing wild seed collection on forest landscapes across the nation.? ?? We are growing and training an entirely new workforce of seed and cone collectors.? ?? In urban areas, we are enlisting the help of our local communities to help build seed supplies.? ?? We are also investing in innovative solutions to scale up our seed orchards – which can provide a stable source of seed for decades. #SeedSeptember

Four hundred years ago, the longleaf pine dominated the landscape of the American Southeast. More than 90 million acres of longleaf forest stretched from Virginia to Texas. And to this day, although the forest cover now hovers around only 5 million acres, longleaf pines remain a beloved symbol of the region. In the American Southeast, we’re supporting efforts to restore longleaf pine and other native species at a massive scale. Learn why ?? https://lnkd.in/g3DxRwR3

We know that apex predators are vital to the web of life. When you think of #wolves, what comes to mind? Folklore tells us the story of, "The big bad wolf," but this magnificent animal is a keystone species that revitalizes nature far beyond what we might imagine. "Canis Lupus" is a true restoration champion. Watch this short video to hear a different story - one of #tropiccascade, and of the remarkable transformation of the ecosystem (and landscape!) in Yellowstone National Park following wolf reintroduction. https://lnkd.in/gFajmdm
