920,000 animals are euthanized every year in the US just because there’s no one to take them in. That’s where pet rescues fill a massive void to help these furry friends find homes. It’s why our community was honored to help Gateway Pet Guardians turn their significant setback into a blessing. Earlier this year, a team member shared that GPG had a late-night break-in at their headquarters. Fortunately, there was no harm to the pups and cats and minimal property damage. But the thieves made off with one of their critical laptops —plus pet meds and even some leftover pizza. Most of us have access to newer, better-quality tech. But it’s not uncommon for nonprofits to both have limited access to electronics while also using dated devices in need of upgrading. That’s where Phoenix Solutions comes in, to resource nonprofits with cash, computers, and content contributions. When we learned of GPG’s need, we sent Diana Pupillo, Alison Erazmus, and their team 12 refurbished laptops with computer monitors to help out. We didn’t know how much we were helping until Chris Medvick and Continuum (GPG’s MSP and IT support) shared with us that GPG’s laptop contribution were the best new computers they ever received. We’re stoked to think about all the productivity gains from their new devices plus the relief they must feel now not to have to fight against aging tech. That’s what it’s all about for us — doing what we can to help meaningful organizations and to close the digital divide. This is one of the many nonprofits we support and the impact we’ve created over our decade+ of providing electronics recycling and data destruction services here in St. Louis and beyond. And that’s where you come in. None of this is possible without you, our community-minded clients who use our recycling services. You’re the real heroes! For many years, the end of each year, around Christmas, was always a busy time for me. Since I can remember, I was always trying to do something good during that time. Years ago, there was #dladzieciakow where we collected money from donors to buy Christmas presents for children in orphanages (seriously, a huge project!). Later, it was a bit smaller and mostly centered around pets, not people. For instance, at Deor, we organized a project where we collected clicks and converted them into pet food with our partner, to later deliver it to pet shelters. This time, it was again about pets. We organized a small competition between my agency, z3x Tech Marketing Agency, and EasySend. We took two boxes and organized a simple campaign to see who could fill their box first with all kinds of pet food, blankets, toys, and other things that pets in shelters could need. It was worth it, as after two weeks, both of these boxes were full. And it doesn’t matter who won (ok, you know who ??). What really matters is that pets in need received a lot of things that - I’m pretty sure about that - brought smiles to their faces. It’s not about how much you do. It’s not about “I need to do something big, because if not - it won’t make a difference”. Of course, it makes a difference. Every single action makes a difference for those who are in need. Big and small. Just do it. PS. Hats off to Zuzanna for all of this. It wouldn't have a chance without you!

Stray dogs are a familiar sight, but have we ever stopped to consider their plight? These aren't just wild animals; they're often lost, abandoned, or born into a life of constant struggle. Their days are filled with challenges: * **Finding food and shelter:** Scraps from overflowing bins hardly constitute a balanced diet, and nights are spent huddled in doorways or under parked cars, offering little protection from the elements. * **Exposure to disease:** Without proper care, strays are susceptible to illnesses and injuries that can be life-threatening. * **Fear and loneliness:** The constant fight for survival leaves them wary and withdrawn. Deep down, however, they crave companionship and affection. The truth is, stray dogs are not the problem, they are the victims. Often, the root cause lies in irresponsible pet ownership - abandoned animals or uncontrolled breeding contribute to the overpopulation of strays. So, what can we do? * **Support local shelters:** Shelters provide food, medical care, and a safe haven for strays. Donations, volunteering, or even fostering can make a huge difference. * **Spay and neuter your pets:** This is crucial to controlling the stray population. * **Be a responsible pet owner:** Never abandon your pet and ensure they are properly licensed and microchipped. * **Show compassion:** A kind word, a bowl of water, or a gentle touch can make a world of difference to a stray dog's life. Losing a pet is heartbreaking. The first Saturday in April is Every Day is Tag Day, a nationwide effort created by American Humane to prevent the heartache of losing a pet. DID YOU KNOW? Approximately 10 million companion animals wander away from home each year. Millions end up in shelters. Tragically, only 15% of dogs and 2% of cats in shelters shelters without ID tags or microchips are reunited with their guardians. To Make Every Day Tag Day: > Make sure your pet always wears a collar with a current ID tag, rabies tag, and city/county license. Include a contact name, address, and daytime and evening phone numbers on their ID tag. > Keep your pet’s licenses, ID tag, and microchip current. Make sure to update the tag if you change your address or phone numbers. Microchips add an additional layer of protection in the event the pet's collar and/or tag fall off or are removed. > When moving or traveling, place a temporary tag on your pet with the phone number of someone who knows how to reach you. > Remember that even indoor pets need tags. Happy Pet Power Heroes Day! R U a hero? Have you ever found a lost pet? In writing the free e-book release for our children to join the Pet Power Hero Tiny but Mighty Army, I discovered a wonderful story about some Girl Scouts, my first Pet Power Heroes! The purpose of the PLEASE TAKE ME HOME free e-book initiative is to encourage spaying and neutering, volunteering, and shelter adoptions to help children become part of the solution for the homeless pets epidemic. Another important thing to do is to microchip your pet so if it gets lost, someone can find you by the microchip. Spay and Neuter clinics in our area microchip pets for $10. This brings me to the wonderful story of some Pet Power Heroes -one Girl Scout Troop that found a creative way to help lost pets in their community. “Troop 1255 from Brentwood came up with the idea two years ago, according to the John P. Holt Brentwood Library — where one of the microchipping stations is installed. With permission from Williamson County Commissioners, a scanner is set up at the library to help pet owners find their lost, microchipped animals.” "Inside the box is an attached scanner you wave across the lost animal and the number code comes up on the scanner display," the library told FOX 17 News. "There are laminated instructions in the box on how to use the machine, what you should do if you get a result, and a list of local organizations that can help, including veterinarians." (Fox17. Com) The girls used money from their Girl Scout cookie sales to purchase and install not one but two microchip scanning stations in their community. These children found a way to make a difference and be Pet Power Heroes. What a brilliant way to help homeless pets find their owners! Will you and your children be Pet Power Heroes? When I write a free book initiative to encourage the Tiny but Mighty Army of children and youth to help change the world, I always include a commitment contract. It is a contract with yourself to make a difference. Have you ever read about a community or world problem and thought, I would like to do something to fix that? You have good intentions, but those intentions never become reality. Why? You never commit. When I work with youth, I always ask, “Do you really, REALLY want to?” I encourage them to think about it, consider the cost, and be sure before they commit. Is it based on an emotional response, what someone else is doing, or is it something I will “commit to do and follow through”? The next time you get one of those “good intentions” moments, ask yourself, “Do I really, REALLY want to?” Consider the costs, then, if you say yes, take a moment to type or write out a contract with yourself. You’re 30% more likely to do something just by writing it down. Children and youth can make such a big impact on this world! So can you. Will you and your children become Pet Power Heroes? Research shows that pets bring great benefits to our lives. But across the world, millions of companion animals are living on the street or waiting in shelters. To help bring data and insight to the issue of pet homelessness, we recently launched the State of Pet Homelessness Project — the largest ever study into the scale and causes of pet homelessness — alongside leading animal welfare experts. ?
