As Caitlin Peale Sloan points out in a recent Commonwealth article (https://lnkd.in/eVeq88Ss), "Massachusetts ratepayers could be on the hook for massive costs to prop up two energy systems – methane gas and electric – when we only need one to meet our needs." The one we need is electric, and without gas transition, we'll continue to see methane leaks, asthma cases, and skyrocketing bills. We need a fair, managed approach to transitioning the gas companies to thermal utilities, which means we need legislation to support that approach.

https://lnkd.in/g9MF9mhX Yet another example of “an active bunch of Republican-voting retirees with a penchant for gas-guzzling RVs” becoming climate activists upon learning facts, and getting past misinformation and disinformation materials pushed by our friends in the natural gas industry. Clearly natural gas is a critical part of our energy supply *today* and tomorrow, but new capital invested in fossil fuel combustion for electrical power generation for the *day after tomorrow* is short sighted and very clearly not a wise investment. Need some proof of that… follow First Solar…, or track the Interconnection Queue in any utility in the country. For example ERCOT has more solar in the queue than the *entire* ERCOT grid capacity today. (Capacity factor excluded, at least for the moment.)

Two Notable Clean Energy Milestones Let’s start the week on a positive note and highlight two clean energy milestones. One has already occurred, and the other will occur later this month. Both happened in places more commonly associated with fossil fuels: Texas – the home of Big Oil, and the United Kingdom – the birthplace of coal as an fuel source to produce electricity. In the case of Texas, other states should take note of what it takes to expedite clean energy installations. The state’s Independent System Operator – ERCOT - has been instrumental is creating an environment conducive to getting projects developed and more importantly connected. Note that because the Texas grid is not connected to those in other states, ERCOT doesn’t fall under the thumb of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). I wonder if that has something to do with the state’s ability to get things done? ?#solarpower #ERCOT #windpower #coalpower #coal #rooftopsolar

Can you see the duck? ?? In 2023 ISO New England Inc. observed 73 "duck curve" days, where electricity demand took a dip during the day, like the belly of a feathered friend, due to homes and businesses consuming electricity from solar panels that reduce grid demand. These quacky days might become more frequent in the years ahead. Dive into the details in this ISO Newswire article: https://lnkd.in/efpCqGgW #solarpower #ISONewEngland #ISONE #powergrid

Earlier this year, INGAA released a set of Winter Preparation Commitments to help ensure existing?natural gas?pipeline?systems can meet the contracted needs of our customers, especially during extreme weather events. Winter preparations alone, however, will not be sufficient to meet the United States’ future?energy?needs. Ultimately, the country needs more?natural gas?infrastructure to meet the growing need for?energy?reliability. Read more: https://lnkd.in/egV_Uqba
