Activists all across the state of Massachusetts are calling their state senators this weekend asking them to support the gas transition measures in the senate bill. We can electrify, like our Electrify Brookline friends in the picture below, but an equitable, managed, safe transition off gas goes hand-in-hand with electrification. So call your state senator too!

Donald Trump heading back to the White House won’t be a death knell to the clean energy transition that has rapidly picked up pace these last four years. Both Republican-led and Democratic-led states are seeing the benefits of wind, solar, and battery manufacturing and deployment thanks to the billions of dollars of investments unleashed by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act. Governors and representatives in Congress on both sides of the aisle have come to recognize that clean energy is a huge moneymaker and a job creator. President Trump will face a bipartisan wall of opposition if he attempts to rip away clean energy incentives now. There is nothing too shocking regarding the events of this past weekend. With Kamala now the presumptive Democratic candidate, the election is a dead heat with just over three months to go. How will this affect the future of energy in America and trade globally? Rapidan's Energy Policy will discuss these issues in our upcoming webinar on Tuesday, July 30th. If you would like to join us, please see the event information below: #uselection #energypolicy #rapidanenergy #geopolitics #oilandgas https://lnkd.in/g7y4zERv
LIVE BRIEFING | VP Harris on Energy Policy – Left of Biden While there has been no daylight between the two on energy policy during Biden’s term as a candidate in the 2020 election, Harris was left of Biden on key energy-relevant issues, including supporting a fracking ban, nuking the Senate filibuster, installing a ZEV mandate, and using the Dept. of Justice to sue oil companies for climate damages. Join the Rapidan team for a discussion & live Q&A as we consider where a Harris presidency might attempt to expand beyond the energy policy priorities of her predecessor, and where Congress and the Courts might put up meaningful guardrails. Date: Tuesday, July 30, 2024 Time: 10:00am ET (3:00pm GMT) Register Today: https://bit.ly/3zRF5tD #election2024 #kamalaharris #oilgas #LNG #energypolicy

“Competitive markets, which by the way were a bipartisan idea, have broken up these monopolies in many parts of the country and enabled electricity consumers to enjoy the benefits of competition. Lower prices, more reliability, and efficient investment. In contrast, in monopoly markets, and I looked at the state of Georgia, consumers end up on the hook for supposedly prudent investments even when there are significant cost overruns,” said Representative Ann Kuster (D-NH).? ? On February 14, the House Subcommittee on Energy, Climate, and Grid Security held a hearing on reliability and affordability. Witnesses included: Jim Huston, Chairman, Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission; Nick Myers, Commissioner, Arizona Corporation Commission; Tricia Pridemore, Commissioner, Georgia Public Service Commission; and Keith Hay, Senior Director of Policy, Colorado Energy Office.?? ? Alison Wise’s comment below Jim Matheson ‘s post presents a fallacy because telecommunications was able to capitalize on multiple frequencies per wire and now multiple frequencies in the air waves, offering discreet means of delivering product between any seller and any consumer. The electricity transmission and distribution system cannot do that. The wires carrying 60Hz AC *homogenize* system electricity so that it cannot be separated by source at the meter. I understand the appeal of the idea of her comparison, but I *implore* lawmakers to carefully scrutinize the differences between telecom and electricity delivery methods because that difference means competition must take on a very different set of winner/loser determinants And in fact changes the definition of competition altogether. In that vein, with electricity different generation fuels and conversion technologies must “compete to cooperate” to minimize system levelized cost. That presents a very different ball game, indeed. It’s time to face that magic and come together for the good of our nation. As I’ve been saying for quite some time, electricity demand is growing, and supply is not keeping up. Public policy is making the situation worse. Bad public policy is encouraging the premature closure of always available power plants, the EPA is proposing new regulations that will force the shutdown of more power plants, and the nation’s environmental laws make it extremely difficult to obtain permits to build any new electric generation, transmission, or distribution infrastructure. Growing uncertainty about the reliability of the electric grid threatens our country’s economic growth. I am pleased to see national media outlets following our lead and reporting the same thing. The New York Times (https://nyti.ms/43gf2qJ) highlights the issue on the front page. That follows similar stories in the The Washington Post (https://wapo.st/3v4GsDh) and Reuters (https://reut.rs/3ViWdkw). Keeping the lights on is vital to America’s economy and national security. We will continue to lead the effort to ensure lawmakers embrace that fundamental truth.

It is important that energy policy continues to focus on all three pillars of what constitutes an effective electrical system, Affordability, Sustainability, and - many of us would argue as the most important - Reliability. Without reliability a large section of the public will sacrifice sustainability and, if the system isn't reliable, any cost is too much. If you want to learn why we need to discuss reliability now, click on the links below.

Today the Supreme Court rightfully paused the EPA’s Good Neighbor Rule. The rule created major threats to the reliability of the electric grid and saddled Americans with higher energy bills.? ? The Court did the right thing?by halting the rule until lawsuits that are challenging it can be decided.?Read my full statement here:?https://lnkd.in/gex6yaPE

if only they will listen. A robust reliably resilient affordable grid has been the key to social and economic prosperity. without it we rapidly become consumed in ever increasing energy poverty. I travel a great deal. and everywhere I see abundant energy I see prosperous people who don't worry about if the lights will come on, they only study how they can make what they have even better. don't see much concern for unrealistic fantasy causes either. they focus on today's issues of care for family, poor, elderly, homeless, environment, education, career, etc. on the environment it's not about fanatical causes but real things like real recycling, minimizing waste, economical transportation, walking when possible, bicycles, minimal packaging, wise choices for clothing. we in the US could learn a lot from many other countries that do far better at social interactions than we do.
I am testifying this morning on "The Power Struggle: Examining the Reliability and Security of America’s Electrical Grid" before the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs within House Oversight. A link to my testimony and the video stream is below. My main point is this: The power grid should be an asset to American prosperity, but policymakers—through a multitude of subsidies, regulations, and mandates—have wounded it to the point that it is now becoming a dangerous liability. https://lnkd.in/evsZR4ZC
