Exciting developments in South Dakota's water infrastructure! The Randall Community Water District has awarded a $105-million design-build contract to a joint venture of Hausmann Construction and General Excavating, in collaboration with engineer Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. (SEH). The project will be to construct a 72-mile, high-capacity water transmission pipeline from the Missouri River to southeastern South Dakota. This project, set to begin this spring and complete by 2027, includes upgrades to the Platte Water Treatment Plant. Notably, it's the state's first use of a design-build contract for water infrastructure, aiming to reduce construction time by half and cut costs by up to 25%! #water #infrastructure #utility #construction #engineering #sue #enr

The ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) recently published their 2024 GA Report Card (https://lnkd.in/gKdXVd9P). The grade given for it's #stormwater_infrastructure was a C-. Some of the key issues mentioned were: - consistent, flexible funding mechanisms have not been established to meet needs - progress has not kept up with threats from increased runoff and pollutant loads - ?areas beyond the coast face changing storm patterns that will need to be addressed in design standards This stands in a strong contrast to what some residents in major areas feel about increasing stormwater utility fees to meet those demands. Specifically, Cobb County, held a vote several days ago to increase stormwater fees to meet some of those needs and was strongly rebuffed by the public: (https://lnkd.in/gPv9HWRz). The question for us as #stormwater professionals is: how do we solve for this contrast between infrastructure needs and public perception?
