?? Absolutely love this post! ?? Being a first-generation student, my experience playing baseball at the community college level paved the way for my Division 1 aspirations, my Bachelor's degree, and even a career in professional baseball. Now, I'm passionate about supporting and advocating for community college student-athletes. That's why I pursued my Masters in College Counseling and Student Development – to give back to students aiming for higher education and athletic success. If you're interested in how Community College Athletics impacts students, check out this post and share your thoughts below. #3C2A #CommunityCollegeAthletics #StudentAthletes #DreamBig #HigherEducation

When I think about the reason California Community Colleges and Santa Ana College means so much to our students, community, alum and to me personally, I think about the purpose around our mission to empower the most talented individuals. Santa Ana College Alum C.J. Wilson and former Angels Professional Baseball player and former Don player--awarded the California?Junior College?Co-Player of the Year award and I had a fun moment connecting a few years ago during Santa Ana College's 100th celebration. Seeing moments like this again remind me of love of the game of life and higher education and why it all matters so very much. C.J. Wilson

The euphoric concept that everyone is special and everyone is a winner, even though no commitment and effort is made by the so called "special", creates delusive sense of victory. This leads to a dopamine addiction which everyone must get every now and then to feel good. This habit after some time, becomes a routine requirement amd sense of entitlement to get a quick appreciation without genuine effort. In the long term, this creates an army of narcissistic citizens who are used to a 'certificate of attendance'. In the long term such "baseless winning" prevents the need for grit and consistent efforts to achieve anything significant and meaningful since the mental reward system that push us to perform consistently towards a certain goal would have already received its dopamine. This is dangerous and one of the biggest inhibitor in the way of realising one's TRUE POTENTIAL. Agree?
Watched this with my children. This is an excellent high school graduation speech from David McCullough Jr., son of famous historian and author David McCullough. He argues against the "everyone is special" nonsense narrative that seems to have overtaken high schools and little league fields across the country. Here are a few of my favorite lines: "If everyone is special, then no one is. If everyone receives a trophy, trophies become meaningless....We've come to love accolades more than genuine achievement. We've come to see them as the point, and we're happy to compromise standards or ignore reality if we suspect that's the quickest way, or the only way, to have something to put on the mantlepiece...Climb the mountain not to plant your flag, but to embrace the challenge, enjoy the air, and behold the view. Climb it so you can see the world, not so the world can see you." https://lnkd.in/eQRHNW_C

Love this picture, because it reminds me of the time Manuel Guerra and Ryan West of Chemeketa Community College breached their Fiduciary Duty by telling me to file suit or complaints with the very parties they’ve close to, such as this one, and the Office for Civil Rights, Department of Education, while providing no avenue to dispute resolution and implying I couldn’t represent myself otherwise, in their investigation which deviated from internal policy. Specifically, Ryan West, Manuel Guerra, and Keith Russell failed to provide a 3rd party independent investigation into my Discrimination and Harassment. If they write their own rules, while justifying the perfect defense against bad behavior, shouldn’t you be aware this was against #504 #IEP #IdeaLaws #ADA #Laws? Clearly the college doesn’t care about human life when the tactics used to silence my claims are the same tactics used to retain a sexual predator only 4 months later. Seemingly, the easier solution is to hire people with fake credentials, duping the college in the very thing they’ve made me certified. This while weaponizing their connection with police training to threaten police violence for my advocacy. I’m further amused some administrators are blocking me. For those who have elected themselves to be responsible educators, it seems either seeing or dealing with the truth of what you’ve done to your students is simply too much of a burden to bear on behalf of the very specific people who did this to me, to my face, without remorse and full awareness of the evil they were doing. Face accountability, stop running and hiding, it’s the worst possible response from an academic institution such as Chemeketa Community College and the CHEMEKETA CLASSIFIED ASSOCIATION who are associated by default. Sincerely, NonAdjective
So wonderful to connect with my valued colleagues at the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) at the Hispanic Heritage Breakfast, where Chemeketa Community College is proud to be a Bronze sponsor. Hispanic Heritage Month has particular meaning here in Oregon’s Mid-Willamette Valley!
