The Adalytics reports that rock the ad industry are a source of fascination, and suspicion. An ad industry that typically likes to control the narrative confronts a new guard of watchdogs with a different style. Also, a lot of people just don't want to talk about it—about ongoing questions of low-quality inventory, MFAs, opaque deals in programmatic. They say the gotcha headlines can sometimes be too sensational and misstate the scope of the problems. I tried to analyze the politics of it, if not get to the bottom of the industry's most enduring issues. And the LinkedIn debates that follow these reports are must-follows. So I spoke with Ari Paparo for his take. And asked Dr. Augustine Fou how he viewed the latest Adalytics report on Colossus SSP. And I spoke with people who did not want their reservations aired publicly, but they had valid opinions to consider on how to hold the ad tech industry accountable without tearing it all down.
