Yes, October 9th is behind us for this year—but choosing one date to celebrate Ageism Awareness Day just gets it into the news. Our real job is to keep awareness going, and to advocate for a society that respects and values people of all ages. To do that, we need to recognize ageism whenever and wherever it occurs; keep the focus on the real problem (a culture that allows it); and call people in, inviting everyone to be a part of the solution. There are many important things to discuss, and this is one of them. Talk About Ageism #100WordsOnEverydayAgeism #TalkAboutAgeism

Children indeed have a remarkable ability to see the world through a lens of unity, unclouded by the divisions that often pervade adult discourse. It's a poignant reminder of the simplicity and purity with which they perceive the world. As adults, we often find ourselves grappling with theories and ideologies that promote divisiveness, perhaps because it's perceived as easier to control or influence individuals when they are divided. Yet, at the core of our existence lies the fundamental truth that each of us is created equal, devoid of inherent privilege over one another. In embracing this belief, we reject the notion of being categorized or oppressed based on arbitrary distinctions. We possess the agency and capability to navigate our own paths without the need for external validation or assistance. While extending our compassion to those in need, whether the elderly or disabled, we remain steadfast in our commitment to standing on our own two feet, independent and self-reliant. We refuse to be swayed or indebted by gestures aimed at buying our loyalty or allegiance. In following the example set by children, we honor their innate understanding of equality and strive to emulate their purity of heart. Let us embrace the simplicity and clarity with which they view the world, transcending the barriers that divide us and reaffirming our shared humanity. #Unity #Equality #PureHeart #Independence #RejectDivisiveness Hopefully you enjoy my posts and will follow me on LinkedIn. Today we celebrate Juneteenth, the longest-running nationally celebrated recognition of the freeing of enslaved people. This day marks an era of freedom, uncertainty, hope, struggle, and resilience in both the pre- and post-emancipation periods. Starting on June 19, 1865, and through today in 2024, it is a day for us to recognize the continued fight for equity and human rights. The formal end of slavery has been followed by nearly 150 years of policies and practices that have continued to oppress Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Whether it be the discriminatory housing practice of red-lining, the persistent wage gaps between workers of different racial identities, or the disparities in birth outcomes for BIPOC communities, there are systemic inequities at play. Room to Grow is committed to closing these gaps where we can for our families. Our mission, informed by these deeply rooted systems of oppression, is to promote equity and opportunity by helping children thrive from the start. We do this by equipping families with crucial resources needed throughout their child’s first three years of life. Today, join us in honoring the legacy of #Juneteenth, the spirit of hope, and the value of never giving up. ?? #SystemicRacism #SystemicOppression #EmancipationDay #LiberationDay

Ageism refers to stereotypes (how we think), prejudice (how we feel), and discrimination (how we act) toward others or ourselves based on age. It negatively impacts our health and well-being, our financial security, and the economy. It exists in many forms, influencing everything from personal interactions to public policy, and impacts us at every age. The good news is that we can do something about it, and we begin by spreading the word on Ageism Awareness Day Oct. 9, 2024.

It's Ageism Awareness Day, and it's time to talk about something that impacts us all. Ageism can show up in subtle ways, from assumptions about someone’s abilities to outright discrimination based solely on age. It affects how we think, feel, and act toward others, and even ourselves, based on age. Whether young or old, ageism stands in the way of living our best lives. At Bellomo & Associates, we believe in embracing every stage of life and working to ensure that everyone is treated with the respect and dignity they deserve, regardless of age. Let's work together to break down these barriers, starting today. #AgeismAwareness #BreakTheBias #RespectAtEveryAge #BellomoAndAssociates
