The updates UK Transport Vision 2050 released by Innovate UK outlines a comprehensive strategy for transforming the UK's transport system into a safer, seamless, net-zero, connected, cost-effective, accessible, and reliable network by 2050. Focusing on my topic of interest ??, the #Vision for Automation of transport vision is to revolutionize how tasks are performed, shifting from manual to automated processes to improve overall operational efficiency and safety. ?? Road vehicles to achieve SAE International level 4 autonomy by 2035, where vehicles can operate in self-driving mode within limited areas, and significantly benefiting those with mobility impairments by enhancing their independence. In the ?? maritime sector, automation trials for surface vessels in UK waters are expected to expand, focusing on adopting automation earlier at sea than in harbors. This shift aims to reduce operational costs and minimize risks in hazardous routes or missions. Similarly, the ?? rail sector anticipates further trials of autonomous trains on the intercity network by 2030, with freight trains and depot shunting likely to be the first to adopt automated movement. ? Air transport is also set to evolve, with new passenger and freight-carrying air vehicles developing increasing levels of autonomy, expected to operate fully autonomously by 2025.
