TIME IS PRECIOUS, USE IT WISELY: We hear that often, huh? When it comes to work, deadlines, projects, meetings, and responsibilities can keep us all pretty busy. I often devour my lunch at my desk so I can squeese in *one more* Teams meeting or chip away at *one more* thing someone else desperately needs. Time is precious, use it wisely. Yesterday at 1 p.m., our team took time to celebrate Brian DeMarco. He and his wife are about to welcome their third child into this incredible world. Our awesome team enjoyed a sugar rush and shared in laughter and an opportunity to connect. So fun! I will admit that it's sometimes uncomfortable for me to use a conference room for a party rather than a serious meeting. But this week, I had the rare gift of listening to Kelly Woodward, our fearless COO, talk about the trajectory of her 'wow-worthy' career, and she shared two things I hadn't considered in my work life: 1) Her mother was her mentor and role model. "Work hard and do right by people," Kelly shared, and 2) Time is precious. As busy as Kelly is running Houston's airports, she will always make time for the people who matter because time is precious. So I pose this question: time is precious; are you using it wisely? Are you leaning into the people who matter and make your work life better? Are you prioritizing people over tasks and deadlines? Are you truly connecting with others or do you simply see your team as a cog in the wheel? I challenge us all to find a reason to celebrate together because time is precious.

Laid off after 29 years at one company. A big reorg ended up cutting 400 people… including a senior leader who thought she’d finish her career at this company. A top producer who moved into leadership. Got steady promotions. Liked her work, liked her team, and was comfortable where she was. And then it all disappeared. A steady track record of success with a company is not a guarantee that you’ll still be there 1, 5, or 10 years from now. And YOUR loyalty won’t guarantee THEIR loyalty. It’s great to stick with a company for years at a time. Rolling stones gather no moss, after all. But your first loyalty should be to YOUR career, not the company where you work. It’s your life. It’s your career. It’s your skills that are creating results. Make sure that you’ve got a plan, and take care of yourself.?

Today is pretty milestonic for me (and yes, I know that isn’t a word, but it should be!). Today is my 20th year at Box UK! 20 years!! I’m sure a lot of people maybe think that being in the same place for such a long time shows a lack of ambition, but that is so different from my experience at Box UK. I work in an organisation that values me as an individual (and always has, even when I haven’t valued myself so much). I work in an organisation that has helped me grow, and given me opportunities to learn new skills along the way (and to this day I’m still learning). I work in an organisation where I’m surrounded by super smart people (honestly, way smarter than me!). I get to work with awesome clients… ones where their goals become my goals (and yes, these goals keep me awake A LOT!!). At Box UK I can be curious and challenge, and influence change both internally and with clients I work with. That’s pretty awesome! Most people at Box UK won’t know this, but every Monday without fail I start my week with this quote (and if you know, you’ll know)… “put some skates on, and be your own hero”
