The majority of funders will require you to demonstrate your ‘skin in the game’! Not literally! They don’t really want to see bruised and scraped knees or elbows! Rather, they want to know that you are invested in the project you are asking them to fund! They ask for this in a couple of ways, one of which is contributions. Contributions fall into two main categories – cash and in-kind. These can then be divided into – yours and someone else’s. Cash is pretty clear – how many $$$ will you kick into your project. Cash contributions may also come from others outside your organisation and may include other grants, sponsorships or borrowed funds. In-kind is a great way for community organisations to show they have ‘skin in the game’. In-kind includes donated labour and materials. Usually at a set $$ rate. In-kind is usually limited to a percentage of the overall project budget. Always check out the grant guidelines for information on what contributions are eligible. HERE is one for the crowd.... by chance does anyone work on a wage and for a company that does Maintenance??... That on a specific assigned weekends the compamy has YOU MONITOR a cellphone/computer for emergency call-outs AND NOT GET PAID for YOUR TIME to do the monitoring of said devices? When this HAPPENS you are working for free...PERIOD!! By having a company device attached to you in some form to cover their response time is in their benefit and you should be paid to NOT only do the call-out but also the actual monitoring! IF not you are DONATING YOUR TIME and if by chance you get a call-out you are NOW WORKING for a lesser wage OVER a day. CALL-OUT + DONATED TIME = less pay per hour

Organisations like ours (Aspire NI) rely on the kindness & generosity of individuals and businesses to help fund and continue our work. But opportunities like this, where community funding is available, helps inject some much needed funds to grow the work we do. As it stands, we work in 29 schools across Northern Ireland, with over 350 young people each week. Our next goal is to work with over 1000 young people every week.
