Good Things will start Happening

This recent article outlining Brian Niccol’s first major move as Starbucks new CEO caught my eye. Starbucks has seen a decline in their sales and Niccol feels it could be due to the environmental feel inside the cafes. They have gone from a traditional sit-down coffee shop to transactionally focused, rapid pickup locations. Niccol plans to reinvent Starbucks back into the community coffeehouse it once was. Although not always obvious, or may be a subconscious feeling, the look and feel of a restaurant is just as crucial as the food that is served. At Crow Works we believe this to our core. Does Philly run on Dunkin'? It depends on the metric you're looking at! A few months ago, some of my FourFront team members and I did a data analysis of all the Google Business Profiles for coffeeshops in Philadelphia. One thing I noticed when writing a story about it (see link in comments) was that there are a LOT of Dunkin' locations in the city. Interestingly, the average rating of these stores actually beat out the average rating of all the Starbucks in town. However, you may notice (and also not be surprised) that the average rating of the locally-owned cafes tended to be several points higher. So in my opinion, Philadelphians tend to run on Dunkin only when they have to. :) #philadelphia #phillycoffee #fourfront #dataanalysis

$113 million in total compensation and WFH on a California beach ???. That's the power move Starbucks’ new CEO, Brian Niccol, just pulled off! For the second time, he has made a career move that has not required him to move out of his home in Newport Beach, California. Niccol successfully negotiated the same swanky deal in the past when he became the CEO of Chipotle. However, later Chipotle shifted its headquarters from Denver to Newport Beach. During Niccol’s reign at Chipotle, the stock price skyrocketed by an astounding ??????%?in just six years! ?? Before Chipotle, Niccol steered a similar success story for TacoBell where he served as the CEO from 2015 to 2018. “???? ?????? ?????? ?????? ?????????? ?????? ??????, ?????? ???????? ??????,” Niccol told the Los Angeles Times in 2015. By the time Niccol left Taco Bell in 2018 he had transformed it with an innovative menu, convenient digital ordering system, and creative marketing. ?According to Financial Times, Danilo Gargiulo from Bernstein says, “Right now, he’s considered the LeBron James, Tom Brady, or Messi of the restaurant industry.” ?? And the market agrees! With Niccol stepping into Starbucks, the stock surged by 24%—all in the brand’s signature green. ??? So, what do you think?
