In shocking news, Rameshwaram Cafe serves food with expired items and unlabelled products!!
So, are there any Laws regarding labelling food products???
??The primary legislation governing food labelling in India is the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006, along with the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and Labelling) Regulations, 2011.
All prepackaged food products sold in India must comply with these regulations:-
1?? The label must be in English, Hindi, Devnagri or regional language.
2?? The label must not contain false, misleading, or deceptive information about the food.
3?? The label should be firmly attached to the container and not easily removable.
4?? The information on the label must be clear, prominent, easy to read, and memorable.
5?? If the container has a wrapper, the wrapper must either show the necessary information or ensure the label on the product inside is easily readable.
6?? The label must include the food's name, trade name, and description.
7?? If the food has multiple ingredients, they should be listed in order of quantity, starting with the most used ingredient.
Other rules include providing nutritional information, using a veg or non-veg symbol, and providing information about food additives and colours, etc.
?? But the real question is, are these regulations being followed, especially in the food industry? What do you think?
