Back home from an incredible three days at the GA HFMA Fall Institute, and while I’m happy to be back, I’m already missing the energy and insights of this event! Huge thanks to the organizers for putting together such a valuable experience. I feel lucky that the first people I connected with were HFMA leaders Marc Scher, Bill Eikost, FHFMA, and Monica Agate, who helped me meet many other finance leaders. Great conversations with Ashley B Hill, MBA, CPC, CHFP, J.Pete Ash, Jr, and gail scarboro-hritz, and reconnecting with Beth (Shultz) Erten, CRCR and the iVitaFi team made it even more memorable.
I’m also honored by the compliments I received for asking insightful questions during the sessions. Some takeaways I’m bringing back include:
1) Key to success: energy, connecting your team, and building identity/culture (Wes Durham); collaboration, involvement, and transparency (Katie Nolen, MPH, PMP); and risk taking and persistency (Marc Scher).
2) “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” by Albert Einstein (Marc Scher)
3) Telehealth may fail to be an effective tool in the case of elderly patients with chronic diseases (Alicia Oehmke, MPH, MSW), but it is still handy (Christopher Towner)
4) Although some people may deem Medicare advantage as a threat, it helps increase access to care, and as long as things are coded correctly and healthy relations are built among providers, patients, and payors, it is beneficial. (Christopher Towner)
5) Stakeholders (physicians, nurses, and other staff) react favorably to AI and automation because they help them do their jobs not easily but effectively. (gail scarboro-hritz)
Looking forward to reconnecting at HFMA’s Florida South Region event and the Tennessee-Wisconsin virtual networking on November 14!
