It's Election Week in America, so naturally, there is going to be a level of anxiety that may permeate into our productivity. That's okay. Let's be real, we don't know what the outcome will be and that can be incredible stressful. Keep your focus on your ultimate goals and get the job done. While we all have our differences of opinion about political candidates, policy, and party, it's important to realize that we are all human beings. We all have other things, be them difficult or easy, in our lives that most people do not know about. All I ask is this: Be kind. Be respectful. I voted a couple of weeks ago for the presidential candidate who I believe genuinely cares about the American people, both men and women alike. Who I believe will help drive a better future for generations to come. Who will fight for all Americans, both Democrat and Republican. I voted congressionally the same. I voted on props that I believe will impact the state and country for the better. And you absolutely should do the same. I know a lot of people who have a complete distaste for politics, but don't let that stop you from voting for a future you wish to be a part of. Remember, the president doesn't control everything. Make informed decisions about who and what you vote for up and down the ballot. Moral of the story: Get out there and vote! It's one of the greatest privileges we have as American citizens. This is not only rare in modern elections; it’s powerful proof of the independent American voter—a testament to the unpredictability of our democracy. There’s plenty to be grateful for, and we can count our blessings that this election didn’t yield a more fractured result. American voters stood up, proving that we’re not as easily boxed into a single narrative as we’re often led to believe. We’re resilient, we’re diverse in thought, and we share an unwavering commitment to our nation’s progress. However, there are two points I think we can take away from this election. The first is the unfortunate role that one-sided narratives have played in deepening our divides. Too many of us, on both sides, have become wrapped up in what we’re told by the media outlets we favor. Turn on Fox News, and you hear one story; switch to MSNBC, and you hear another completely different account. The truth should never be a matter of perspective, yet here we are, navigating a landscape where news isn’t always balanced or complete. Once upon a time, news outlets were bound by laws to tell the truth and cover issues equitably. While that may no longer be the case, it’s more critical than ever for us, as Americans, to do our due diligence, educate ourselves, and demand unbiased coverage. We owe it to each other—and to our democracy—to make informed choices and protect our elections from the influence of foreign powers. The second point, and perhaps the most disappointing, was the focus on divisive narratives about identity and DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) issues. There’s no doubt that topics like these play to certain voter bases, but they became flashpoints that distracted from the broader issues that impact all Americans. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are not niche ideals; they are principles that should unite us all. We need a political focus that reflects that DEI is about respect and compassion for every American, not just one community or another. It’s time to restore these ideas to their true meaning—a call for unity, not division.
