Reflections post #HLTH - the hard truth With 14,000 (+?) participants mixed with the high vibes of Vegas one may think everything is booming in #DigitalHealth land. But beyond the flashy booths and high energy events, the real music is about an industry that is bifurcating between have and have not. Many (many) companies are either hitting a wall with their sales motion or/and bleeding too much cash due to ineffective modals. Consequently there are also significant number of funds that are turned into "zombie investors" not able to raise their fund due to insufficient portfolio traction and thus continue to meet companies without having the dry powder to actually double click on compelling opportunities. These obviously make the fundraising process more complex and filled with false signals. There are a lot of conversations on the mental health segment but I think we rarely speak about the mental load on #founders. Walking the halls of this conference can make you feel all companies are trending "up and to the right", doing much better than yours. So especially for early stage founders, I hope this can serve as a reminder that many of your peers actually struggle. Really struggle. Their performance isn't necessary better than yours. You would be surprised how big a disconnect can be between a fleshy image of a certain company and what you see when you look inside. See you in Vegas next year and may the odds be in your favor!

Detroit, we are proud of you - 2021 on top left and 2024. From two people (Meggin Schack and Stefanie Moore) who believed in the mission to now just shy of 20 that take care of Detroit metro patients daily. For those of you pondering a start up - do it. All you need is 1) passion 2) plan and 3) people. - passion, you wake up thinking about it and can write a vision and mission around it - plan, what new/improved value are you bringing to the market —> define how you are going to execute it. - find people that believe in the p,v&m and go to work with them. Your going to be told that your crazy and that you will fail - turn those voices down ?? - but gain motivation from them. Prioritize mentors and advisors, listen more and talk less - surround yourself with those that believe in you and your team, learn from them ??. Your going to need the people most - because when times get tough, you will be told to shut it down. Only the foundation of the passion and then the people will believe enough to keep going. Be prepared to be told “no” 9 times for everytime someone says “sure, I’ll listen.” If your going for it/building something we are rooting for you. Where There’s Smoke, There’s Fire: The Community is Burning Brightly at Assembly Last night was one of those rare moments where everything just clicked.
