We should all take note of this report produced by Church of England and the Nationwide Foundation. Paints a very bleak picture of the chronic housing crisis, but provides a call to arms for everyone to come together and drive forward the solutions. Providing good quality housing and affordable homes should not be controversial, but we still encounter resistance to this on a day-to-day basis. The report proposes a number of initial steps which should be policy priorities for the next Parliament, including: - A housing supply target related to good practice understanding of need and requirements, ideally by tenure - i.e. 300,000 homes per annum of which at least 120,000 of these should be social and affordable homes; - A next generation mid-sized new town or new town extension development / large scale development of master-planned settlements; - Better co-ordination between housing and infrastructure planning; - Reform of the planning system; - Building additional capaity in the construction sector; - Promoting SME and community builders on smaller sites; - Greater use of public interest-led collabroation in land purchase, assemly and release; - Taking full account of social value; - Public investment in planning system capacity; and - Reducing the under supply of accommodation suitable to allow older households to 'right size'. Good to see the voices of those advocating for meaningful change getting louder. #HomesForAll

The supply of senior housing is lagging far behind the demand. According to a June 2024 report from LiveOnNY, there are more than 300k applications on the waiting list for HUD 202 senior housing. America is in the midst of a silver tsunami. We need to create enough senior housing to meet the needs of an aging population.
