No Veteran in this country should be homeless. No Veteran should be without Healthcare. The citizens owe those that volunteer to serve. If we are unwilling to do so, then all citizens should have to serve for 2yrs, male or female. A very small minority of our fellow citizens serve in our military. They should be paid better than civil servants. They should receive proper housing benefits, especially if they have a family. They should NEVER have to be on food stamps because their military pay does not cover their ability to put food on the table. I propose that all active duty military be given a food allowance. They should be trained in a military job as well as a position that will allow them to transition to the civilian sector while they serve. I propose that would assist in decreasing the joblessness and homelessness in the Veteran population.

On this Veterans Day, let’s remember that those who suffer from respiratory conditions like asthma and COPD deserve real action, not just words. Too often, we see arguments based on opinions rather than on the data and standards needed to protect public health. Let’s prioritize clean air, water, food, stricter environmental standards, and preventive measures over quick fixes. The health of veterans and civilians alike should not be compromised by pollutants and harmful products. Wake up, America—the path forward is through sustainable change, not temporary solutions.

Thanks to the 53 Florida Municipal Power Agency team members at our plants and office who are veterans (53 out of 197 team members or 27%). We greatly appreciate your service to our country to protect our citizens and provide a better quality of life for so many. It is not surprising that over half our veterans are from the Navy. So many Naval personnel end up working in the power industry given the ships and subs are powered by engines and nuclear steam engines with much applicability to the our natural gas combined cycle power plants. It is worth noting that the energy industry in general has a mission with parallels to the military. When the U.S. has abundant and affordable energy for all, we are protected from other countries which would do the U.S. harm by limiting our energy supply. When the U.S. has an excess low-cost, reliable energy that it can export, it can limit the economic harm rogue energy countries can do in the rest of the world. In a sense, a strong U.S. energy industry limits wars and limits placing personnel in harms way, similar to a strong military. For that we should all be thankful.

We need to recruit corporations and job creators like Joby Aviation to our states. They are the future and have no other agenda but the future. Recruiting forward-thinking companies like Joby Aviation, which is working on innovations in electric air taxis, could indeed position states as leaders in future-focused industries. These companies bring high-quality jobs, stimulate economic growth, and often drive advancements in technology, infrastructure, and sustainability. By attracting businesses that prioritize innovation and future-oriented solutions, states can create hubs for cutting-edge industries, from green technology to advanced manufacturing. Supporting these companies can also inspire local educational institutions to build relevant programs, aligning workforce skills with industry needs. Plus, companies like Joby Aviation focus on green transportation, which aligns with broader sustainability goals and may attract talent interested in working on transformative, meaningful projects. To succeed in recruiting these job creators, states might consider offering incentives like tax breaks, grants for research and development, infrastructure improvements, and partnerships with local universities. By positioning themselves as supportive environments for innovation, states can drive economic growth in a way that aligns with a future-focused agenda that benefits both the business and the local community.
