I ride the NYC subways often and I have become concerned about the many young children I see on the subways selling candy. The world today operates on an equal give-and-take value system. But this is a terrible way to operate. Let's say you're out at the supermarket. You might pick up an apple and think “Hmmm… I would pay $2 for this” And then you look at the price of the apple, And it is in fact $2. The value you receive (yummy apple to cure your hunger) And the value you give ($2) Are equal. This is how just about everything in the world operates, right? But let's say you were low on money that day and needed to stick to your grocery list which didn't include apples So you sadly put it down and walk away. But then I see you walking out of the supermarket without the yummy apple that you were eyeing up So I quickly buy it and run it out to you as you’re putting your groceries in the car You would feel really good that someone cared enough to give you this small but meaningful gift. But why would a stranger do something so kind but expect nothing in return from you? Spoiler alert: making you feeling really good is the secret sauce. Why though? Maybe later that day you let someone merge in front of you in traffic Just cuz you're in a happy mood And when you get home you say yes to your kids asking to have friends over that night. But maybe one of the parents of your kid's friends just happens to be my layer And while she has some peace and quiet around the house She finds the winning piece of information that wins me my case along with $50,000 What I’m trying to exemplify here is that ~ what goes around comes around ~ …In possibly an exponentially larger way than you could ever imagine. This is just a very short example of one of these chain reactions But the idea is: I may never know why my lawyer won the case And the lawyer may never know why you offered to take her kids off her hands But it all started with me giving without expecting anything from you and remember the person you let merge in traffic? What did that small act of kindness go on to become? Paul and I have stopped Idyll…?? We learnt the hard way: Loyalty and digitalisation are nice-to-haves for local shop owners. The enthusiasm we shared with our 3500 regular shoppers moved our focus away from the key problems of shop owners. They include increasing fixed costs and high turnover. Despite the energy we deployed and to our greatest disappointment, we realised we weren’t fit to help them with these priorities. After deciding to pivot, we wanted to reuse our assets to try and solve a different pain point. However, only our collaboration and companionship was worth holding onto. Despite our resignation, we went back to an empty board. Hundreds of ideas were erased in minutes, many in hours, a few in days, but one is still going, and has been for three months The following realisation sparked Boune: 2-year-olds average 1 hour per day of screen time, and today’s teenagers, the first generation who had smartphones as infants, have a 134% increase in anxiety rates since 2010. We interviewed 100 parents who live under those preoccupations and they stepped forward to help us design a solution: ???That’s how we built our first interactive audio stories that make children the heroes and work on their focus and imagination. We call children by their names, ask them to speak into the microphone to choose outcomes, and sometimes, we get them to show off their best moves ?????
