Happy birthday Wyoming! It is no secret that I’m very proud to be from this state. In honor of Wyoming becoming a state on July 10, 1890, Here’s my very favorite fact about Wyoming. Yellowstone National Park was the first national park to be established in 1872 (before Wyoming was a state) and Devils tower was the very first national monument established under the Antiquities Act by Teddy Roosevelt in 1906. At the time all the states were very pro states rights and didn’t want the federal government telling them what to do (some of us still feel this way). So when Grand Teton National Park was established under the Antiquities Act in 1929 the state of Wyoming was so mad about it because the federal government was taking over our land that they got Congress to write into the Antiquities Act that Wyoming would never have another national park or monument established by the federal government in our state ever again. And we are the only state to have this protection written into law. We have certainly had other federal overreach since this and it didn’t stop Wyoming from being nearly 50% federal land (thank you FLPMA) but I love this sentiment of attempting to keep state control anyway. Happy birthday Wyoming! Let’s continue to keep the federal government at Bay.

Ohio is among the most gerrymandered -- politically rigged -- states in the nation, according to the Princeton Gerrymandering Project and the Cook Political Report.
