Now that Juneteenth is officially a federal holiday in the United States, it’s the perfect time to observe Juneteenth as a family. Juneteenth is right around the corner and it celebrates the freedom of the last group of enslaved people in the United States. Looking for ways to honor this holiday with your children? Here are 5 ways to celebrate Juneteenth together as a family. 1) Read about Juneteenth: Together, you can learn about Juneteenth and why it’s important to celebrate. Checkout Juneteenth for Mazie. You can have a discussion about the book with your child. 2) Have an outdoor cookout: Just like any holiday, Juneteenth is all about enjoying good food! 3) Create kid-friendly crafts: Have a craft party! You can make a craft stick Juneteenth Pan-African flag. Have your child paint craft sticks red, black and green then glue them to a jumbo craft stick to create the flag. 4) Attend a local celebration: Attending a local Juneteenth event is a great opportunity to meet other families and build relationships with people from different backgrounds. 5) Support a Black-owned business: Shopping small is a great way to support your community. Create a list with your child featuring three Black-owned businesses to visit for Juneteenth.

?? Leverage Your Holiday Events for Real Connection If you’re planning holiday events like a Fall Festival, Trunk or Treat, or Christmas bazaar, it’s time to make them count for more. My ask is simple—get contact information from your visitors. Whether it’s names, emails, or phone numbers, gather it all. Then, follow up to build relationships that last. One of the pastors in my Growing Church Network did just that and collected information from over 400 households! They used an enticing door prize ?? and made sure to follow up with personal invitations to every holiday event. The secret to success is consistent follow-up—from invitations to handwritten notes. This intentional step can transform how your church connects with the community. Let me know how it goes! ?? #effectivechurch #churchgrowth #pastors #church #HolidayOutreach #CommunityConnection #ChurchInvitations

Join me at the Event "Where is the Meal? Community Building with Meals" "Where is the Meal?" is a series of events responding to the question of how meals relate to place, and its cultural, political, technological and legal conditions. This event explores temporal and situative community building: How do meals come to be in places that are neither private nor commercial? What are the tensions that emerge when running a community kitchen, allotment or garden in a cultural or educational institution? For more details: https://lnkd.in/eDTdTySa

Bring a Little Holiday Magic to Someone in Need The holidays are near and here, and for many of us, it’s a time filled with joy and giving. But for some families, it can be a tough season. That’s why I’m so inspired by the United States Postal Service Operation Santa program, which has been spreading holiday cheer for over 100 years. Here’s how it works: kids and families in need write letters to Santa, sharing their wishes. These letters are then made available for anyone to adopt. You can choose a letter, fulfill the request, and make someone’s holiday brighter. It’s such a simple but powerful way to give back! Visit the website: uspsoperationsanta.com Read through letters sent to Santa and find one that speaks to you. Send your gift and make someone’s holiday wishes come true. It doesn’t take much to make a big impact. A warm coat, a favorite toy, or even just knowing someone cares can mean the world to a child or family this time of year. This program is a reminder of how much good we can do when we show up for each other. If you’re able, I encourage you to check it out—and share with anyone else who might want to join in. Let’s make this season a little brighter for those who need it most. ?? #OperationSanta #HolidayGiving #SpreadJoy #CommunityKindness

She Speaks Supports Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation On September 30, She Speaks stands in solidarity with survivors, their families, and communities as we honour the children lost to residential schools. Orange Shirt Day is a reminder of the harmful legacy left by residential schools and an important part of the journey towards reconciliation. This day, inspired by Phyllis Webstad, serves as a powerful statement that EVERY CHILD MATTERS. It is an opportunity to reflect, acknowledge, and work towards a future of healing and hope for generations to come. How to Participate: Wear an Orange Shirt: By wearing orange on September 30, you show support for reconciliation. If you plan to buy a shirt, please consider supporting Indigenous retailers, either locally or online through the Orange Shirt Society and other Indigenous sellers. Participate in an Orange Shirt Day Event: Find local events or virtual gatherings to commemorate this important day. Join the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation's "Lunch and Learns": These educational sessions are available on YouTube and can be watched anytime throughout the week. Read the 94 Calls to Action: Familiarize yourself with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action and reflect on how you can contribute to these efforts. Reflect on Reconciliation: Take time to think about how you can contribute to reconciliation, decolonization, and Indigenization—whether in your personal life, your workplace, or within your community. Join us in supporting this day and continuing the work of reconciliation. Together, we can make a difference. #EveryChildMatters #OrangeShirtDay #TruthAndReconciliation #SheSpeaks

I am grateful for the responses since the previous post regarding the Compassionate Conversations Programme in Winchester. ?? To clarify the location, it's called The Winchester Rooms - a search on this will pinpoint the exact location. ??? Yes, it's a little tucked away from The Square, which is why I was stood outside at Mint Yard hoping to guide people to the session. ??? I still need to try to recruit a small group to attend for this Sunday. Some people have asked whether it's a drop-in - it's not, it's a programme of 7 sessions of 2 hours, with a break in between. Three sessions are planned prior to Easter where there's a one week break. Then the remaining four sessions to finish on Sunday 28th April. ?? These sessions are FREE OF CHARGE, courtesy of Sovereign Network Group. ?? Please help me spread the word to someone who may benefit in Winchester. ?? I will give an update this Friday. ?? Image Description: Post titled "Some clarity ahead of this Sunday". In the center of the post is the Compassionate Cuppa poster for the event with all the details on it. either side are the messages "Make sure you're prepared before you leave" and "Check below for all the details" Bottom left are the hashtags #Preparation #Clarification and #ComapssionateConversatios. Bottom right is the Compassioate Cuppa logo. #CompassionateConversations #WinchesterEvents #CommunitySupport #SpreadTheWord #FreeProgramme #SupportEachOther #EmotionalWellbeing #ConnectionMatters #SovereignNetworkGroup #WinchesterSupport #TogetherStronger
