During this time of year, we pause to reflect on the past year and be grateful for those we cherish and love. We engage our residents with meaningful programs that speak to their hearts and rekindle some of their most joyful memories including holiday gatherings, family and friendships. Wishing you stillness through gratitude and pausing to recognize life’s blessings. - Franciscan Ministries' Life Enrichment Team

As we navigate our professional journeys, it’s crucial to remember those who paved the way for us. Today, I want to shine a spotlight on the incredible individuals who have dedicated their lives to caring for us—our elders. Whether they’re our parents, grandparents, mentors, or caregivers, they’ve selflessly nurtured and supported us, imparting wisdom, guidance, and unconditional love along the way. Their contributions have shaped who we are, both personally and professionally. Now, as we strive for success and fulfillment in our careers, it’s our turn to reciprocate that care. Let’s make a commitment to prioritize the well-being of our elders, not just as a duty, but as a heartfelt expression of gratitude. Whether it’s spending quality time with them, ensuring they have access to essential resources, or simply lending a listening ear, every act of kindness makes a difference. Let’s cultivate a culture of respect and support for our elders, recognizing their invaluable role in our lives. Together, let’s honor their legacy by demonstrating compassion, empathy, and gratitude. Let’s not just talk about caring for our elders; let’s actively show it in our actions every day.

"Finding Joy and Fulfillment Beyond Career at Church" Every Sunday, I make it a point to attend church at Victory Temple, Area 25C Assemblies of God. It's a reminder that amidst our professional lives, it's essential to pause, rest, and nurture our personal well-being. For me, that space of peace and happiness is found in worship and service to God. At our church, we offer three services: 1. 6:00 AM – 7:30 AM: Parents' Service 2. 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM: Parents' Service 3. 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM: Contemporary Service (for young adults and youth) Today, I was truly moved by the joy and energy of the young adults and youth during our contemporary service. Watching them dance and praise with such enthusiasm reminded me that they, too, find their happiness and fulfillment in God. This made me reflect on the importance of finding joy outside of our careers. What about you? Do you have a life beyond your professional responsibilities? #WorkLifeBalance #SundayReflections #FaithAndJoy #PersonalWellBeing #AssembliesOfGod #SpiritualGrowth #RestAndRecharge

In my day to day, I'm often working on many different things at once. It looks like chaos to some but for me each thing I do fills up a certain need I have in my life--connection, creativity (both written and with my hands), community. On my vision board I outline my plan for the year and then each month I go after very specific goals. When I'm coaching others or planning activities at The Mother Heard, I use our HEARD method for achieving a thriving life. H: Hope--what do you hope for the future? E: Explore or engage with what that means to you very specifically A: Accountability or Actions that you will take to achieve your goals R: Reflect on how you are doing regularly D: Dream EVEN Bigger What I know to be true for me in the summer is that it is often too hot to do anything and I can spend the entire day on one thing that is not on the top of my list. Plus, since I will be teaching again this fall, I know the next six weeks are all mine to really bang some things out. AND LinkedIn just reminded me that I've been with them for 18 years . . . 18 years--like raising a whole child! So, I come to my LinkedIn community for my accountability. I will list here my actions for the next 6 weeks and I'll report back in before classes start. Feel free to check in as well! Sometimes the big stuff takes support!!! 1. Get a literary agent for One of the Heard. Which means it has to be a finished draft! (Don't invite me to fun things unless you also ask how the process is going. Introduce me to any agents you know!) 2. Book 50 people for the OASIS retreat @themotherheard before prices go up in August. (Sign up to come or share it with someone in your life that can benefit from more community!) https://lnkd.in/gxfdRE-x 3. 15,000 steps a day on average. 4. Finish a creative hands-on (not writing) project. 5. Spend time each week in quality interaction with someone I love. 6. Deliver a regional plan for Only7Seconds? to the team. Ok. Thanks for a great 18 years LinkedIn. What's up for the next 18? #themotherheard #motherhood #goals #accountability #theheardmethod #oasisretreat #connection #community #create

Cultivating Grace: 3 of 3 The Intersection of Grace, Self-Care, and Caring for Others At the heart of grace is the understanding that we are all interconnected. The grace we extend to ourselves nourishes our capacity to extend grace to others, and vice versa. When we allow ourselves to be imperfect, we grant the same understanding to others. This cycle of grace fosters a community built on compassion, where self-care and the care of others are not separate acts but intertwined practices that uplift everyone. Whether through personal growth, community engagement, or daily interactions—let us remember the power of grace. In moments of self-doubt, stress, or conflict, grace can be the gentle force that grounds us, heals us, and connects us to the world with a fuller heart. Grace is not just a gift we give to others; it is a gift we give to ourselves. It may sound like a cliché, but the truth sits inside the grace we give internally and externally. Let it be a guiding principle in how we care for ourselves and in how we relate to those around us. Together, we can create a world where grace is abundant, fostering a culture of kindness, understanding, and mutual support. BOLO for my next short series on Gratitude ??

What if we're celebrating the wrong heroes today? Or are the real heroes hidden in plain sight? Mashujaa Day is a time that always stirs something deep in me. Growing up, I was surrounded by stories of courage, sacrifice, and resilience. As a child, I didn’t fully grasp the weight of those stories. Today, they mean everything. To me, Mashujaa Day isn’t just about celebrating the national heroes we learned about in history class. It’s about honoring the everyday heroes too our parents, teachers, neighbors, and even ourselves. My own journey has been shaped by incredible acts of bravery, not on the battlefield, but in the daily struggles we often take for granted. It’s about celebrating both the men and women who shape our everyday lives. The mothers who sacrifice daily for their families. The fathers who work tirelessly to provide. The teachers who inspire us, the farmers who feed us, and the young people striving to create a better future. I think about my mother, who, despite limited resources, fought tirelessly to ensure I had a shot at a better life. I remember how she would wake up before dawn to make sure we had food on the table, despite the challenges we faced. Her quiet strength has shaped who I am today. And I reflect on the countless women and men around me who silently endure and overcome challenges, building the foundation of our communities. These are the Mashujaas I celebrate today the ones whose stories may never make headlines, but whose impact is profound. Mashujaa Day is a reminder for me to pause and think about the power of resilience, community, and unwavering hope. It’s a day to honor the struggles that have built who we are as individuals and as a nation. And most importantly, it’s a chance to reflect on how we can be Mashujaas for others. So, who is your Mashujaa? Take a moment today to honor the heroes in your life whether it's a family member, a friend, or someone whose quiet acts of courage inspire you daily. Happy Mashujaa Day

?? Eulogising a Loved One: A Tribute from the Heart ?? An eulogy is a celebration of life, a chance to honour a loved one's legacy, and share their story with those who gather to remember them. If you're tasked with this meaningful responsibility, here are three tips to help you create a touching tribute: 1. Reflect on the person's qualities: What made them unique? Share stories that capture their spirit. 2. Speak from the heart: It's okay to show emotion and to speak in a way that feels natural to you. 3. Keep it inclusive: Mention the broader impact of the person's life on friends, family, and the community. #EulogyTips #CelebratingLives #TogetherInMemory

This project has been life-changing and life-giving so far. I'm honored learn from and be part of the lives of these beautiful souls! ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ Legacy Wednesday! Our elders have been the storytellers and wisdom-keepers of humanity since we took our first creature breaths. Legacy often happens by accident, by actions we did not predict would be so impactful, by following our core values, and sometimes, by living a truth when we didn't mean for it to slip out. Revolutions have been started simply because someone was tired and couldn't face another day of BS. When a cultural narrative means that we forget our olders who hold such wisdom and let them live in isolation, we have gone off path. The time is overdue to re-open to the powerful legacy of our cultural storytellers, and to remind them they matter so much, that we need their stories, we need their wisdom. We have a beautiful soul involved in our project who believed she had nothing to contribute and was scared to be seen in photos or talk while in a group, but when she had a conversation one on one, her stories had me spellbound. She is a natural caregiver, she loves fully, music brings her joy, and every item she owns is intentional and has a story tied to it. During our time together so far, she has softened to sharing and will gladly pose for a photo with our team. She is a hugger. The connection is what means the most to her. We are so happy to have her in our little community. We have learned so much from her. The legacies matter. Help us create an ongoing community of connection, meaning, and legacy. throughhumaneyes.ca [email protected] #throughhumaneyes #legacy #legacywednesdays #community #connection #communityofcare #compassion #compassionatecare #visibility #storytelling #storytellers #wisdom #elders #weloveourolders #meaning #meaningoflife #love #lovematters #culture #culturalnarrative #impact #livingyourtruth #hugs https://lnkd.in/gFZT76ef
