I had an interesting call yesterday from one of my course students, an Independent Contractor with a sharp business structure. She shared an enlightening story and raised some key questions. She’s currently renting space to perform her work and asked me: Can the person she rents space from create and oversee everyone’s schedule with clients? Is it permissible for them to supervise how the work is done? Should she be associated with the business name and practices of the space she rents? Having completed my course, she already knew the answers but wanted to confirm. I love these moments when what I have taught kicks in and gives an individual or business a clear and concise path. As a Business Owner or Independent Contractor, what would your responses be? If you need clarity on how to protect yourself as an Independent Contractor or how to legally set up your business to work with contractors, now’s the perfect time to learn! Here's what happens when my incredible online business girlies come to me to get their contracts sorted ?? Some of them come to me just around the time they are about to sign a new dreamy soulmate client into their business ?? But that client is not fully ready yet. Maybe the client has expressed interest on a few discovery calls. But they are taking some time to think it through. So I get started with the contracts for my girls ???? When it's ready, I send an email with the contracts and explain exactly what to do from there. But usually this little email with my contracts is marinating inside the inbox of my online business girlies. For a while... All I ask them to do is review it, make sure they agree and answer my questions. You know what happens most often? They push it ?? It's one of those tasks that can wait till the next day. Until.... Suddenly. That potential client is no longer a potential client ?? ?? They are ready to sign up for and pay thousands of dollars to start working with my online business girlies ?? And that's when the fire kicks in. Review it fast. Get the contract done. Sign ? I don't blame them. Sometimes all we need to finish off the more "boring" tasks in our businesses is the motivation of a new client just around the corner. And when that happens, it's always nice to have a client contract template saved in your drive and ready to go so you can seal the deal and go change the world ?? We are changing gears around here and I'll have a lot less availability for drafting contracts over the next couple of months. So if you've been thinking about getting contracts in place inside your online business but you've been waiting for the right moment, now might just be the time ?? Book a free legal consult here to see if this is the next uplevel inside your online business: https://lnkd.in/deNsCfdn _________________________________________________ I’m Laura – contract lawyer, yoga teacher, Zen Desk Podcast Host and online business owner ?? I help high performers find success and a social life without burning out by building structures that balance work and wellness so they can make money while feeling amazing in their body and business ??

Hook: “Is Charging Less Really Hurting Your Business? Here’s Why I Think It Might Be…” "As a service provider, pricing can be one of the trickiest parts of running a business. It’s tempting to lower your rates to attract clients or compete with others, but let’s talk about why undercharging can sometimes do more harm than good: Perception of Value – Clients often associate higher prices with higher quality. Charging too low can sometimes give the impression that the service is ‘cheap’ rather than valuable. Quality of Clients – Lower prices can attract clients who may not fully value your time, often leading to higher demands and tougher interactions. When clients are willing to pay for your expertise, they tend to appreciate it more. Burnout – Undercharging means you have to take on more clients or longer hours to make ends meet, which can lead to burnout. Quality work takes time, and valuing your work appropriately allows you to maintain that quality without exhausting yourself. Room for Growth – Charging a fair rate lets you invest in training, tools, and growth. When you’re fairly compensated, you’re better equipped to deliver value and improve your services. Pricing your services isn't easy, but remember: your time, expertise, and energy are worth it. Sometimes, saying no to clients who don’t align with your rates can open doors to those who truly value what you bring to the table. What’s your experience with pricing as a freelancer? Have you found that higher rates attract better clients? Let’s chat in the comments!"

When you’re running your own business, there’ll come a time when you wonder: Should I be getting myself some PA support? For plenty of business owners though, taking on monthly paid PA support is a daunting prospect. Will I definitely get value out of it? Can I actually afford it? Is this really the right time to put ANOTHER thing on my list to sort out?! I was there, and thought all the same things while I was stuck doing the same cog-turning tasks week in and week out. It wasn’t actually until I was about 10 years into running a PA service, that I considered getting someone to help me! For me, getting help was key to leveraging my time and doing the bigger picture stuff that’s built MiPA since – things like following up leads, creating content, re-engaging ex-clients, perfecting new products, creating training to upskill our team. It ALL counts. So here’s how I always suggest our most “uncertain” clients approach their newfound support, to guarantee it leads to the growth of their business too… You simply take the same number of hours of PA support you’re paying for, and block them straight out in your diary. So if you’re paying for ten hours’ monthly support, you block out two 5-hour sessions in the month, or ten 1-hour periods. And you make them bloody non-negotiable. You switch on your do-not-disturbs. You dedicate that time to the big picture, revenue building lucrative activity that’s going to drive your business forward this year. (Aim to generate at least as much money as you’re paying for your PA during those sessions and you won’t look back!) It really is as simple as that. If you’re looking at 2025 and thinking now’s the time to free yourself up to get your head out of the dirt and into the clouds, you know where to find us. Em x P.S. If you don’t think you need full PA support but you do have some rhythmic, repeatable tasks that you’re stuck doing every week, hit reply and let me know and I’ll tell you the best, cheapest way of getting them done (and it’s not by us!).

I've been thinking a lot lately about business success and ... specifically ... What it means to be on the success treadmill being sold to new business owners (service providers, freelancers, consultants) is giving a very wrong impression of what's possible. I know because I was on that treadmill for many years. And, every mile I hustled, I never felt like I had gotten far enough along. Successful but ... Not successful enough ... yet. More to do, more to earn, more to offer, more to try, more to change ... Then, I had a talk with myself. You know? It's OK to stay small. And by small, I mean a micro-business, a tiny business, a lifestyle business. Small is beautiful. Small is mighty. Small is powerful. Small is where 90 percent of business and consultants and service providers operate. And this is where my very successful clients want to stay. Small, manageable and flexible enough to work in creative pleasure, passion projects and LIVING LIFE. Making a deeper impact not wider. So, if you have a SMALL business, I want you to share your website in the comments and tell us what your micro-business is all about ... P.S. -- Technically, the U.S. Small Business Administration defines small business by firm revenue (ranging from $1 million to over $40 million) and by employment (from 100 to over 1,500 employees).

One of the things I found really tough about being in my first business, was dealing with the ???????????????????????? ???????????????? to do and be everything in the business. It was all consuming. I couldn’t ever stop thinking about my business. I couldn't ever switch off! I had staff but I didn’t know what I was doing as a manager. I didn’t know how to confidently delegate. I didn’t know how to outsource. So I just kept going. Getting more overwhelmed by the day. Getting more stressed with each week. Getting more burnt out by each month. By the time I worked out how to fix it, it was too late. I had sold my business. That is why I created the ?????????? ???? ???????????????? ??????????????????. To support other service business owners to reduce overwhelm, build the right systems and structures internally. In my current business, I still get busy, but my mindset and approach is totally different. I have saved so much time by implementing automations, understanding how to effectively and confidently delegate and have outsourced to several freelancers and agencies over the last few years. I feel much more in control of my business and the outcomes. I feel (most of the time) much less stressed, overwhelmed and overworked. I have a 9 month old and a nearly 9 year old, so there is never going to be enough time to do everything. But the Build My Business framework has enabled me to take time away from my business without it crumbling. It has meant I have been able to go on two trips to Jamaica in the last 6 months and continue to achieve sales. Are you able to step away from your business and know confidently that it can continue running without you? Do you honestly feel like you are running your business or is your business running you? If you can relate, write the word ?????????????? in my comments or DMs to get a free copy of the Build My Business Workbook. In the workbook I share the exact methods I have used to help myself and countless other service business owners, reduce their businesses reliance on them, boost efficiency and profitability and confidently delegate to their staff. \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** \ ** * Hey ??
