I heard you infantry and business guys like to carry stuff! So we put a backpack in your backpack that's on your backpack! We’ve all been there: Overpacked and ready for any scenario, even if it means our “loadout” makes us the least agile person in the room. It’s a mentality born from the days when preparedness could be the difference between success and failure. Here’s the key takeaway for business, preparation is essential, but it’s a double-edged sword. While being ready for anything builds resilience, carrying too much, whether it’s overthinking, excessive planning, or extra baggage, can make you slow, ineffective, and less adaptable when the unexpected hits. The real skill is finding the balance. How do you prepare enough to be effective, but remain agile when it matters most? It’s about making strategic choices and knowing when to lighten your load so you can pivot quickly. Drive the Mission, Build the Future. It wasn’t just the infantry guys carrying this size load on hikes in the Marine Corps. ??
I think the best thing i can offer is to trust your instincts. Especially if they’ve been honed by valuable experience! I tend to be overly analytical, which slows me down. I notice i often have an instinctive response to most things. I’ve learned to trust my instincts as they almost always turn out to be right. Had i trusted them early on, i’d save myself massive wasted time and effort in over analysis!
My everyday carry is experience and imagination. Experience is ready and imagination is agile.
