?? Friday Beer Thoughts ?? As we gear up for the weekend and maybe grab a cold beer, here’s a thought I keep coming back to: why is it that in the U.S., so many mainstream beers are so big but totally still miss the mark - look at me Budweiser and its tasteless approach to the beer market. I know that there are thousands of lesser-known craft breweries across nearly every state that are incredible ?? But they don’t go beyond the borders of their vicinity. Despite the decades-old reputation that "American beer is bad," the craft brewing scene here is actually vibrant and rich with talent. Yet, these standout brands often struggle to reach broader audiences or break into the mainstream. Could it be that marketing budgets and distribution channels still favor the established big names, or that local loyalty keeps these gems more regional? Cheers to the innovators brewing some truly outstanding beer –? time for them to develop their challenger mindset to get the feedback they deserve, ere’s hoping they get the recognition (and shelf space) they deserve! ?? American friends or just beer connoisseurs, which brand is your favorite? The one that says Bud Light is banned for life #FridayThoughts #CraftBeer #SupportLocal #ChallengerMindset #Marketing #Neon42

Bristol Beer Factory is the place where the history and cutting edge of the beer industry meet. The company itself celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, while the building it occupies has been?#brewing #beer?since 1836. It is from this building that Bristol Beer Factory has been a pioneer of the last couple of decades’ brewing trends; from Milk Stouts to American-style West Coast #IPAs. “We have been right up there with the first breweries making these beer styles,” says Sam Burrows, Managing Director of Bristol Beer Factory. As well as brewing, Bristol Beer Factory also serves its beer at the four pubs it operates across Bristol, each with its own identity. Employing a team of 26 people at the #brewery and 75 across its pubs, Bristol Beer Factory has forged itself a strong position as an SME. But more than that, the brewer uses its position as a platform to support the community it is a part of. https://lnkd.in/ew2NsyV7 #businessworld #digitalnews #globalnews #news #onlinenews #fmcg #internationalnews #businessleaders #newsupdates #newsoftheday #businessbuilding #latestnews #subscribe #follow #businessfocus

Ummm, did we just invent the anywhere beer? The State of Play mission to give the choice of having a beer regardless of the alcohol content, has taken a turn… When we launched, the non alc segment fought as an alternative. The Heineken zero tag line is ‘when you want a beer but can’t, now you can’. And the rest of us followed this narrative. It’s a bit narrow in ambition It’s a bit negative An insight we fought against Then we launched State Of Play- the only dedicated zero alc brewery in New Zealand. This is important as we totally love beer, without alcohol and don’t have to play by the rules of all the other breweries. Turns out the State Of Players don’t play by the rules either. We got photos of the best beer moments. Comments about enjoying a beer on their terms. They kept coming. More and more beer occasions. Breakfast beers after morning milking, after ultramarathons, road tripping, boat beers, beers before baby, beers at the farmers market. And then we realised we had created more than a beer, the drinkers had decided this beer can be enjoyed, anywhere. New rules apply: Rule #1 if you want a beer. Have it. Rule #2 share rule#1 with a friend. Here is a reel of the last 3 months. When you next have a great beer anywhere send us the pic please #theanywherebeer #beeronyourterms #ipa #hops

Yesterday, I was proud to be a part of the launch of SIBA, The Society of Independent Brewers and Associates Independent Beer Report. As a business, we have been supporting SIBA and independent breweries for many years, and I am glad to see overall beer numbers returning to pre-pandemic levels. Craft is back it seems, even if at a more granular level, there are changes in the mix of beer sold. As the report tells, there is still a lot of work to be done! The UK beer industry is a huge part of our culture in the UK, with the role of the local pub often mis-understood and valued. The role of independent brewers is also still undervalued - I wonder how much of our spend in a pub stays local when spent in a local pub, drinking local beer, rather than drinking in a large pub chain, drinking global brands. You can download the report here. Drink local, support your local economy, support your local independent brewer. https://lnkd.in/ecn-8c6M

This is great news for Beer. When Greg Wells and the team at We Are Beer reached out to me to act as a contributor for their newly launched We Are Beer Industry platform, it took me all of 5 seconds to say yes. Why? The beer industry is on the defensive. For those that run breweries, we’ve battled wild demand swings through the pandemic, macro competitors with big pockets, supply shortages, and significant cost rises. We've defended blow after blow, and it's been a struggle to find the time and resource to do anything else. But the only way to truly change the outlook for beer is to be bold and go back on the attack. We have industry bodies that support us, but I’d argue their remit has always been to protect, not attack (which makes sense when you consider the % of their membership that will be older, no growth breweries). They’ve played a key role lobbying to protect the industry, most notably through the duty changes/raises, which is a tough and important job… But it’s no longer enough. For me, the We Are Beer Industry Platform comes at a perfect time, because it is all about the attack. It’s not about what we know today. It’s about providing access to people, insights & ideas that will enable us to think about what beer can be... with some helpful insights that will give us and investors more confidence to invest the time and resources into them! I’ve dropped a link into the comments where you can find out more about the Industry Platform. Go check it out.
