The cybersecurity services that many companies need and the services most cybersecurity companies provide are rapidly becoming mutually exclusive. As costs continue to grow, and breaches become bigger and more expensive to remediate, it's clear the things most are doing aren't really working, or even worse, it's giving boards a false sense of confidence that they'll be ok. Instead of building "AI platforms" that regurgitate answers from "experts" that googled those answers to begin with, we should be working on things that we know work, like patching, backups, cyber supply chain security, asset and identity management, and effective trainings that help employees simulate responding to a real incident and watching not outdated videos with Tina.

What is Cyber Security? Cybersecurity, a seemingly straightforward term, yet its complexities run much deeper than most realize. While a layman might associate cybersecurity with the protection of computer systems from digital attacks, it entails a lot more - it's like an iceberg, the majority of it lies beneath the surface. To a policymaker, cybersecurity could mean formulating regulations to protect national security; to a business leader, it may involve safeguarding proprietary information and customer data; to an IT professional, it could mean developing and implementing robust systems to ward off potential threats; and to an individual, it might simply be about protecting personal data and maintaining privacy. The nuances involved in cybersecurity are such that policies, procedures, and practices significantly vary depending on the context, the individual, the organization, and even the country. It's this diversity and complexity that make cybersecurity an intriguing and vital field. Understanding these complexities can help us shape more effective strategies, foster informed discussions, and ultimately, create a more secure digital world.
