We are proud this #FamilyBusinessFriday to publish the fifth in our series of six brilliant future-looking family business leaders, forming our #FamilyBusinessWeek - ‘Ones to Watch’. Perhaps working just a mile from Dorset’s Jurassic Coast helps foster a different sense of time, but Emily Palmer Ramus, Chief Executive of Palmers Brewery, clearly has a long-term perspective. Named CEO only recently, Emily is the fifth generation descendent of John Cleeves and Robert Henry Palmer, brothers who bought an existing brewing company back in the late 19th Century. There has been beer brewing on site non-stop since 1794. Dorset-based Palmers employs 50 people directly, and their 52 pubs (all tenanted) employ a further c1,000. While the selection of beers Palmers produces may evolve, The Dorset Pale craft keg was added a few years back, the heart of the business has remained the same. “People and custodianship are always at the heart and have been for generations”, Emily explains. Staff service is measured in decades at Palmers. Half of the staff have been there over 10 years, with many over 20, and some over 30. Emily says: “Long service creates the family atmosphere at the brewery, and means we have a workforce with a wealth of knowledge and breadth of experience as they’ve often held multiple roles.” Read more about Emily and her family business journey Palmers Brewery, in our "Ones to Watch" https://bit.ly/EmilyPra ? Family Business Week is Sponsored by NatWest Business. ? #nextgeneration #innovation #stewardship #familyvalues #familybusiness

We have turned the sod on Ireland’s first carbon-neutral brewery at Littleconnell, Newbridge, Co Kildare! After announcing our plans in 2022, we’re glad to have begun construction on our new €200m state-of-the-art brewery, that will brew our lagers and ales including Rockshore, Harp, Hop House 13, Smithwick’s, Kilkenny and Carlsberg, facilitating enhanced capacity for the production of the fast-growing Guinness 0.0 at the traditional home of Guinness at St James’s Gate, Dublin. With a capacity of 2 million hectolitres, it will be the second largest brewing operation in Ireland outside of St James's Gate, and will go on to support the growth of overall beer exports from Ireland. All this would not be possible without our stakeholders throughout the process; Enterprise Ireland, Kildare County Council and Minister of State for Agriculture and TD for Kildare South, Martin Heydon. We look forward to many more future collaborations with our stakeholders, on impactful and exciting projects like this one! ? #CarbonNeutral #Guinness #Brewery #Kildare?#DiageoIreland

What does our Operations team do? It might be faster to list what they don't do! This trio (plus Stuart, who keeps them company) keep the whole business going in ways that nobody else can quite understand. Suffice to say that if you've ever had a Batemans from a pub, shop, or even at our brewery, it wouldn't have made it without these three. #batemans150 #realale #familybusiness

In 2018 the idea of El Velorio, a beer dedicated to Puerto Rico and the resilience of my people came to my mind. The first and only of its kind. The concept of developing a product wasn’t just about the quality, it was about the story, the art, the ingredients. Ensuring that ingredients from Puerto Rico were used. Why? To elevate its local economic impact. A product made in the states. Yet, leaving an ample economic and social impact locally and on the island. This beer, was chef to table. The development of the product was a beautiful collaboration and it’s humbling to say my sister was involved in every step. In 2020 in the middle of the pandemic, the beer was launched. In September of 2020 the beer started to be in distribution in Puerto Rico, as well as the south east. This is a story for another day, because I traveled with a suitcase filled with beer to pitch the product around the island. Never had I really been part of any industry in the island as I left when I was 8. Yet, I knew this product needed to be in shelves. Sold for over 3 year becoming a household name, too seller, and picked up by Sams, Walmart, and all local markets. Taking risk in your life is essential, at times the question has been. Why so many changes in your career. Because that’s how you learn, that’s how you because the artist of your own path and life. #Recipe Development, #Distribution #Partnerships, #Creative, #Marketing and #Media #Strategy, #Video #Production, #innovation and #Expansion, all key parts that were learned.
