It's a shame to miss this one, but planning is on point & almost done, with her calendar almost blocked out both days. 2. Onboarding a new employee. This individual will add a tonne of value internally and to our existing client base. 3. Finalising details for our US trip in April. Have you ever tried gathering intel without actually listening? Spoiler: it doesn't work. Alright, I promise this is the last story about my plane co-piloting adventure. ?? Picture this: there I was, sitting in the co-pilot seat, feeling like a secret agent on a mission. The pilot was in constant communication with the control tower. But here's the kicker—they weren't just talking; they were genuinely listening to each other. It was like watching a perfect tennis match but with fewer grunts and more “Roger that.” I quickly realized that active listening was the unsung hero of this high-flying escapade. The control tower wasn't just spewing out random commands, and the pilot wasn't just nodding along like a bobblehead. Every word mattered. It was a symphony of clarity, and it hit me—this is exactly what we need in business. Imagine if we all listened like our jobs depended on it. Oh wait, they kind of do. Active listening isn't just for avoiding mid-air collisions; it's for dodging business blunders too. When the pilot repeated back instructions, it wasn't because they loved the sound of their own voice. It was about making sure everyone was on the same page, or in our case, the same altitude. Back in the office, I started to see how often we miss the mark because we're not really listening. We're half-tuned in, juggling emails, or daydreaming about lunch. But when we truly listen, magic happens. Misunderstandings vanish, collaboration soars, and suddenly, everyone's working together like a well-rehearsed dance troupe. So, how do we bring this cockpit clarity into our daily grind? It's simple. Put down the distractions and give your full attention to the person speaking. Reflect back what you've heard, just like the pilot did. And for the love of all things productive, stop interrupting. It's not a race to get your point across; it's a team effort to get it right. So next time you're in a meeting, channel your inner co-pilot and really listen. I love this message, I think that all TA teams should intimately know the job they are hiring for or at least know a little bit. One of the best pieces of recruiting advice I've gotten was to sit with the teams you are recruiting for. When I was on the TA Team at Netflix supporting a hardware engineering group, instead of having the typical "hiring kickoff meeting in a conference room", we took a tour of the team's lab space to quickly get immersed in their world. I got to touch the devices they built, see live demos of their work, and get inspired by the impact of the technology. I also got to introduce myself to the rest of the team. There are so many ways to build up your knowledge when partnering with new parts of an organization, but stepping into their shoes is one way to quickly bridge that gap.
