Before burning in unincorporated areas, state law requires notifying the Forestry Commission. Here's what you need to know: ?? Only burn vegetative debris like leaves, branches, and limbs. ?? Clear a firebreak around the burn site. ?? Have the proper equipment to keep the fire controlled. ?? Stay with the fire until it’s fully extinguished. Key rules to follow: ?? No material can be added to the fire after 3:00 PM. ?? No burning at night (except for small, attended recreational fires like campfires). ?? Violating these rules may result in the fire department extinguishing your fire. To notify the Forestry Commission in Greenwood County, call 1-800-986-5327 or go online at scfc.gov/notify. Remember: It’s against the law to burn debris brought in from other locations. If it didn’t grow there, it can’t be burned there!

How good is this by Oregon Department of Forestry to support those involved in prescribed burning program. A program like this would definitely support those private businesses working in bushfire management. Currently insurance premiums are inhibit small businesses developing to carry out prescribed burning that would improve bush fire mitigation. A program where private businesses can work with NSW Rural Fire Service , Queensland Fire Department and Rural Fire Services around the country, would increase amount of prescribed burning on all lands. Fingers crossed for the future. #bushfire #insurance #prescribedburning

From Montana to Arizona, along with the Pacific Northwest, climate change, forestry practices, and governmental requirements present real challenges in the prevention, mitigation, and response to wildfires. This seminar focuses on the overarching federal baseline, along with a specific look at Montana’s approach to wildfire management. We will explore whether the baseline approach is adequate to address risks and impose responsibility, and consider what tools—policy, regulatory, litigation—are available to advance efforts to address the risk of wildfire. Uncommon practices are all too common in the workplace. Top managment must adequately equip their organizations, especially where high risk operations are spread and safety resources may be "light on the ground". From the article: “Jake Duncan was a treasured father, partner, son, brother, and friend. The forestry industry owes it to whānau to ensure workers get home safely each day,” says WorkSafe’s area investigation manager Paul Budd. Businesses must manage their risks and up to date, site-specific risk assessments are a must-have in forestry. Plugging and bridging is an unstable method, and logs should be cleared as soon as possible to avoid coming loose. “Jake Duncan’s workmate only survived because he jumped in the opposite direction as the log came down the hill. The terror the two men must have endured as they saw the log coming towards them is unthinkable,” says Paul Budd.
23-year-old Jake Duncan was killed when a stuck log came loose and hurtled towards him at high speed on a Hawke’s Bay forestry block. ? Our investigation found an uncommon practice known as plugging and bridging was the reason why the log turned into a deadly weapon. ? This tragedy?highlights the need for forestry businesses to have up-to-date, site-specific safety plans. Read more about the prosecution: https://lnkd.in/g8JW62fk
